Mammoth Opening Day

It is marked as Nov 7th on their website. Super excited, but wondering if anyone has been on opening day before? I know its kind of up in the air until basically the week of, but I'm tryin to get an idea if its worth planning a 4hr trip for.

What will the coverage be like, and how many runs open?
Will it be crowded?
Natural or man-made snow?

Coverage will depend on how much nature provides. Last year I believe there was about a foot from mother nature on opening weekend. I believe they blow snow for a couple weeks before opening around the main lodge for sure & maybe the mill? So what's typically open will be a lot of the runs the funnel into main lodge (main & forest park should have a couple features), sometimes chair 3 is the highest that will be open. If there's some good help from natural snow, Cornice Bowl could be open. If you or any pals are beginner riders, they usually don't have beginner runs open until Thanksgiving weekend - Discovery Chair out of Main. Eagle and Canyon won't open til Thanksgiving at the very earliest, usually they open mid Dec.

I know it's iffy to pull the trigger on place to stay, driving up, etc. without knowing what'll be open, but if you're jonesing for some riding there should be plenty of fun to be had (with a lot of other people). I seem to remember that even waiting for the weekend or 2 after opening weekend, it being less crowded, and there may be more open.

Im also wondering the same thing...My fear is that I'm just being impatient. But I've been trying to find other opening day reviews from the past few seasons... the recent post on here of the mountain so far looks ehh... but im praying to the snow gods... getting strict on recycling ever thing I can... ANYTHING for KARMA POINTS WITH MOTHER NATURE

I was wondering if I could hike up Mammoth and snowboard down to avoid paying for a lift ticket? or will patrols turn you away or give you hassles? I dont want any trouble... I get its a lot of work and not practical, but it would help on saving cash instead of a $100 lift ticket each visit...

just was curious to know it hiking it up was an option if money gets tight... Mahaloz in advance.

Mammoth is almost open! By the looks of things, Broadway will be open, among Mammoth Unbound! Here's the Mammoth Snowman's report as of today:

Not with the early season minimal snow coverage. The few runs open will be lift access only. After more snow falls, there are zones all over the mountains outside the resort you can hike.

There are a couple of colder systems coming out of the north that are supposed to drop pretty low and bring snow down to Cali over the next week and a half. Could be a good start to the winter season.

I hope some of the stuff hits southern Cali. I'm debating on whether or not to go get a pass somewhere.
