The only time I use it is when I get myself in tight spots where ther is not room to make turn without destroying board on rocks or sometimes in tight trees, you may need to zig zag your way out to where you can make turns. Also, as a semi competent rider, you can get yourself in areas that you are`nt ready to try making a turn and it`s a way to get you down to terrain you are more comfortable with. You can never have too many tools in your quiver. The problem, and why AASI is wanting instructors to reduce the amount of emphasis on it is, too many peaople learn the falling leaf and never progress past it...they ride the entire mountain on the heel edge and call themselves snowboarders.....
