Default preparing to learn

sup y'all,

been browsing around the forums for a while, gleaning as much info as i can.

got my first my question (of many i'm sure):

what is the stance like on a rental board? how are the binding angled? or are they?

now a little background...

my wife and i have planned a trip to mthood for vacation and to learn to board. neither of us have been, but have always wanted to. anyway... as part of our attempts to be as well prepared as possible, we got a balance board to help us out. i'm guessing it doesn't REALLY matter, but i want to try to practice on the board more or less like we are going to be riding if at all possible.

I've been getting all the tips i can from snowolf, and a more helpful person i couln;t have found. hopefully he hasn't bitten off more than he can chew by offering to instruct us when we get there...

anyway any thoughts are appreciated.

moo.

First of all, welcome to the forum!

Snowboarding is great. Just remember, think positivly the whole time. Have fun with it. It'll be hard at first, but you'll get the hang of it. Snowolf is a great guy, you should have an awesome time with him.

I hope you and the wifey enjoy snowboarding!

Thanks for the kind words...

As for the rental boards, we are using a cool system this year (and last) that allows for the rider to change the stance angles by flipping two levers. The system uses a center "post" that is screwd down to the inserts and the binding swivels on this "post" and locks with the levers. The system is sweet for training as you can switch the board from regular to goofy in about 30 seconds and never take your gloves off. As for stance width, I think the standard philips head screwdriver is required. I am working there this week so I will look at the board more closely.

Keep at the balance thing. Even if it is`nt exactly like snowboarding, it will strengthen your core muscle group which gives you balance. Don`t forget to work those calf muscles on the stairs as well. This will really pay off when riding toeside.

Some good news....Mt. Hood is finally getting slammed....over 2 feet so far in the last 2 days. Roads are a mess, chain restrictions everywhere and it is even snowing on I-84 in the Columbia Gorge. We had big snowflakes here in Vancouver tonight. It will be a tough trip to work in the morning!
