Yeah, MPD has it right, only I don`t necessarrily go completely accross ths chute or steep. Sometimes I just slide 10 feet or so each way in a shallow traverse to keep the speed down, then I up unweight the board, by flexing my knees, then popping up abruptly and then pull my legs up and spin 180. The board lands with the edge across the fall line and I ride back the other direction. As you know, in a standard turn, you pick up speed very quickly when the the board is pointed down the hill. This technique eliminates that rapid acceleration.
You can also use this technique to navigate moguls very successfully.
