Hey all, just wanted to enquire about stance and whether it will affect how my board behaves. I had my bindings setup by my local store before i went away, but found i had some minor but painful steering issues. I felt my board was responding slower to my reflexes than i imagined. I've put this issue in another thread. However, i forgot to mention that whilst away i noticed the stance position of all my friends boards were slightly different. Their bindings seemed pretty central to the board. whereas mine are set towards the back. I can see there is the possibility to bring them further forward. Any chance this might help with the turns? or would it make matters worse?

it would help

rearset slows the turn as you use effort to swing the nose back and forth and also compromises the turning properties provided by the board's sidecut (the precise physics of this i am uncertain of)

in any event, rear-setting ain't a bad thing, and in fact is highly preferrable when riding soft and deep stuff (something to bare in mind when the snow gods feel generous)

Cheers Paolo, looks like i'm gonna be bringing them forward then. I did seem to cope better than my friends in the tiny amount of pow we managed to find in Austria. It was in a little off-piste bit, which if i had my way i'd be in everyday over the horrible groomed stuff. However what with the snow-gods being a bit on the tight side this year..(think they're worried about the recession)..we had about 500 ft of pow, as opposed to nearly 150 miles of bashed-piste. looks like the decisions been made for me. For now at least. Thanks again.

QA lot depends on the board. Ideally you should use the same inserts front and back. If the board is a directional with a built in set back, then often the flex pattern is engineered to give peak performance with the bindings placed setback. Stance angle makes some difference as well.

Just took my back binding off to see what the score was. Have discovered that it was positioned on the centre 4 of the 8 holes available. It would appear that my front binding is setup the same. Take it i have one of the boards you describe above Snowolf. so do ya think it would throw the balance out a whole heap if i moved my front binding forward to the forefront 4 holes?? pain in the arse, can't move my back binding forward too, unless i remove stomp pad. Schoolboy error, huh?? Stance angle i have is 21/ -9. went with this angle, cos didn't wanna end up switch with both feet facing backwards, sounded scary..:s

Thats the key, central. Here is what works best for me. I put the bindings on the middle bolt set of each foot. I set the bindings to 15 front, -15 back. This is perfect for 95% of the terrain...the other 5% is BC with powder. That you want the bindings set back one set.

Thanks mpd. i've heard of a few people using that setup (15, -15) think i will give that a try. Unfortunately as far as my binding positions are concerned, they are on the middle bolt set of each foot, it just happens that, that isn't centre of the boards length. It appears it's like snowolf said, it's a directional board with a built in setback. I'll just have to hunt down the pow 'n spend alot of time there..aah, well it's a hard life, ain't it
