No, there really is`nt a technical reason, you just need to work up to it and when you start learning to ride switch, you have to go back to basics like learning to ride all over again, go slow and pick terrain that you can spend some time with the board pointed straight down the fall line without acceleratiing rapidly. Just put the exact same proceedures into play and it will work.

If you have a free ride board (non twin tip) with a directional stance setback and progressive sidecut, the board will definitely respond different, but you can learn to ride it switch very well with practice. Trust me, it takes some time and dedication to get the switch riding; even more so if you tend to really have a very dominant direction to fight against.

Carving Fakie How To:

Snowolf, look at the quote and then where my weight is....ha ha
I'm all about weighting forward. Did they mean the old back foot and new front foot?

That is a Supermodel 181 by the way.

For me it knees and hips irregardless to what direction that I'm riding.

Yeah that is a monster of a board. No disagreement here; I have always advised initiating turns with the leading foot and have been an advocate of a 60/40 weight shift to intiate turns..

Default Intermediate Snowboard Lesson: Moguls

There are many ways to tackle the bumps. The general rule of thumb is that learning to pick your line is the key ingredient to navigating these things. I have discovered that my prefered method is to traverse each bump about midway and ride around them. When I have picked a spot to make a turn, I generally fully flex as I approach the spot, then while banking off the mogul in front of me, I rapidly extend, unweighting my board and then spinning downhill to plant the board in the trough headed the opposite direction. As you are riding across the bumps, it is crucial to remain loose and allow independent flexion and extension of the legs in order to maintain a quiet upper body while allowing the board to ride up and over the bumps. Going slow is the key to learning to ride these things and it is more than acceptable to come to stop at the point you are going to do a pivot turn or "Leaper" to ride back the other direction. As you become better, you will be able to maintain a realatively constant speed and turn shape as you ride through a mogul field.

Riding through these is a great workout for the core muscles and abs. If you are ever freezing your butt off on the hill, go find a good mogul run to hit and you will no longer be cold. In this video, I demonstrate my technique of doing this.

Thanks for this wolf! My bro-in-law and I started boarding this year (well, I had 2 days 10 years ago) and after lessons together on our first day, I poked around this section. On day two, I was out there given him advice on how to improve his technique and little tips to try, and nearly all of it came from your videos and various other posts. I can't begin to thank you enough for putting up these incredible resources.

Excellent snowolf!!! I noticed your videos up on youtube about a month or so ago now, and I've watched them a few times already.

I've already thanked you by messaging you over youtube, but you deserve extra thanks by posting it on this forum. THANKS MAN! Great work! I hope that you'll keep those videos uploaded for a very long time .

Default Video snowboard camp

I stumbled across these lessons one day at Snowboard Academy.com and they are awesome. If I had them last season I would have saved myself a lot of pain learning how to jib!! They just dropped the price for the off season from $97.00 to $67.00 (thats like the price of one lesson at your local hill). The video training camp goes over everything from the basics to jumping, spinning & flipping like the pro's!!! Enjoy!
