Default Damn rails!

So today I hit my first rails. My first one was good (I didn't slide down he whole thing though). Second one was better because I hit the whole thing. However, I started to get this problem where I would land 50-50, and my body would turn it boardslide, causing me to catch many edge. How would I avoid this?

My guess is that it happens because one (or all) of your shoulders, hips, or head was not on the same plane as the rail. If your in a 50/50, you need to have all of the above "aiming" in the same parallel directions. If your board is 50/50, but your UPPER BODY is turn more towards one side, then you lower body will follow along with it, taking you into a boardslide. Also, a way of avoiding the edge catch is lean back just a touch. If you lean back to far, you'll slide out on the dismount (if not on the rail itself).

Sedition is spot on here!

There is only one force possible that will cause a board to pivot on a rail and that is body rotation. Anythime you get this happening it is because of rotation. Normally it is the shoulders. Also, a speed check to close to the point you mount the rail can get you onto it with some rotational force still present from the speed check. To 50/50 a box/rail you need to get onto it from above very straight and the shoulder and hip should point to the end of the rail. Avoid leaning too far over either edge of your board for that will cause the dreaded slipout.

Also, if you start to go into a boardslide, do not fight it as this will cause a crash every time. Try to ride it out and stay centered in your stance and avoid the temptation to lean back.
