Need some help...

So today I went boarding for the 3rd time, and in my defense it was pretty icy, but I'm having a lot of trouble with something involving the toe side. If I get some speed going down hill, and I want to keep the speed (possible on a flat to get to the lift or something). I try to not turn left or right, and sometimes it will work out and I will make it to where I need to go, but usually if I'm going too fast for my comfort I'll get going and the board catches on the ice (aka, my board started to turn without me wanting it to), and I go flying. Luckily I'm still young so I haven't done anything bad yet, but it's a killer on my body. I just can't go in a straight line. Any tips or advice for me?
Thanks.

What kind of board are you using? model and size and yr

Takes practice.

Put a little weight on whichever side of the board is uphill (or more accurately, that you are sliding away from).

Some boards are worse than others at catching edges. You could take it to a shop and have the do an edge grind with a less sharp angle, tell them you want 89 degrees.

89 is sharper than 90

my board.

It was a rental, and I knew nothing when I walked in so I'm not sure what the specs and stuff where, but if you have any suggestions I'm 5'10", 140 , and good at crashing.

Flat basing....(there are arguments of actually flat or slight edge...but disregard them) you want to be flat as possible...BUT be in the front seat!...weight on the nose!. Ur probably gets the fearz and get in the backseat...and that is likely your problem. The trick is to stay on the nose and relax your knees and ride loose. A thing to practice is to find a mellow green run and ride 1 foot as long as possible...if you can ride 1 footy you can do this.

1 foot?

Riding 1 foot as in, in the front foot? and if that is the case... I try and go on the front foot with my back foot in the air, flexing the board?

I need to clarify then, I meant 89 side and 1 on the base, so total edge is still 90 with the bottom slightly elevated off of the snow.

Edge Tuning for Skis and Snowboards

Kind of a pointless discussion if he's on a rental though.

Back foot is pressed up against the inside edge of the back binding. It's the same technique you use getting off the lift. Hopefully. The other technique is to fall over then slide down the exit ramp on your face. (the other lipslide  )
