Default straight-air on edge?

Just wondering, 'cuz ive seen a lot of stuff about taking off flat based, then taking off on toes/heels for spins. Can you hit a kicker on edge and land on that same edge? No fancyness involved, cept maybe grabs, and not sliding out on the landing either?

Sure, why not.

I wouldn't recommend it if you're going big. Harder to absorb a landing on edge.

You'd probably land on edge and have the board go flat as you absorbed the impact anyway.
