hey all!

been reading this forum for a couple seasons, just decided to make an account now...lol, i'm excited to talk with all you guys!

i was in the mountains this past weekend and was trying to pull some 180's, i found out that when i'm doing these spins, i tend to feel very "rushed" very fast-paced, when i look at other fellow boarders, they're doing spins and looks like they're in slow-motion...does this make sense?

i also get really winded when i do spins, i exert alot of energy when i'm doing this but i feel like there's gotta be a better way, i ollie to pop off and then i spin using my shoudlers. sometimes i can only get 90 degrees in before i hit the ground. obviously i'm not turning fast enough...

i can do 180's on flatlands standing still, but when i hit the jump it feels like i don't have enough time to do the spin...

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

not sure but i'll add it in anyways...

been riding now for about 4 years, fairly comfortable carving both goofy and regular. can't do black runs on goofy, but can do the blue runs. regular, any run is fine. i was thinking going off a jump goofy then turning into my comfortable side again but everytime i go off a jump on goofy, it feels quite awkward and i bail

IMO everything looks easier and smoother when someone else is doing it :)

Are you doing frontside or backside (or both)? Are you doing them flatland or are you using a feature (whether a jump, or natural roller, etc.)? Are you popping off the edge of your board? YOu should be. Otherwise you are airborne before you try to initiate the spin and that will cause problems.

I would suggest that is not so much in your shoulders per se as it is your head which initiates the rotation, although for frontside 180s you don't even need to do anything except swivel your hips you can spot the landing from the takeoff, but it's kind of cheating.

i'm not really sure what side i'm comfortable doing yet, so i've been doing both. i've been doing them on blue runs off natural mogules or sometimes off a cliff drop or between the chairlift poles there will be tiny lifts, i'll go off those and try but just fall.

flatlands, i'll get some speed, do my toe edge, then try and pop off and do 180 but i can't seem to do it properly...i know it'd help if i had a video...maybe i can hit up the hill tonight and get some videos to upload for later...but any initial thoughts? how far should i turn my head?

Like the other posters said, use your head to begin rotation and use a simultaneous action from head to toe until you've landed 180. You don't need any 'air' to do a 180 or pop for that matter if it's complicating the process for you. I have a wooden beam setup that I practice spinning onto and off of. I'd recommend this as you'll soon find that they easy! And yes, this is coming from essentially a beginner freestyler. The 180 in all situations starts to feel natural by doing it this way. Then once you add in speed and that massive boost in the air from even a small jump and 180 is about not losing your 'head' :p

P.s. Confidence 90%/ practice 10%... Unfortunately sometimes to get the confidence you have to practice 90% :p
