Looking for newbie Progression tips
i m having a blast with this being my first season, only been out there two times so far and i'm loving it
just looking for some tips for progressing faster.
i can link turns and i don't really do those long traverse across the hill before i change direction anymore, i can do some basic carves but nothing fancy, still cant quite link carves.
Green runs are easy for me yet still fun, the problem is that they are usually short trails so im spending more times on the lift then im on the slope , and with other beginners out there blocking the road it also gets hard to go faster, just wondering what should i work on before i advance onto blues
Also carving is commonly misused, it is a more advanced technique. If you are linking your turns, but you skid through the turn it is called a skidded turn.
Depending on whether you are actually linking turns or carving there are very different things you can do to improve.
when i say change directions i mean going from heel side edge to toe sideedge and vice versa.
yea, the carves i do are very basic but it's probably some what more of a skidded turn, i checked my trails they are like a 1 inch trail instead of the full board length. cant quite link them yet
so i guess my question is should i stay on the greens and learn how to get dynamic and be real comfortable before i move onto the blues? what else should i work on the greens, the only thing i noticed was that i was getting faster and faster each run.
Did you already took your class on Dynamic turns? The one that start with you doing the stand up crunch down exercise? That will lead to the instructor take you to the blue slope and have you point your nose down slope and go down without traversing across.
I believe that is the final stages of the basic. After which you can start focus on specific techniques - like Carving or Jumping, etc.
thanks JamesX hmm probably need to get a level 2 lesson or something now, since the only lesson i ever took was the beginner lesson on my first day
snowwolf , yep, i m not doing the falling leave, i m linking my heel side turns to toe side turns then back to heelside...etc. i was actually able to do that on my first day and went to a blue and it kicked my ass , i had to brake all the way down the blue run for most part so i went back to the greens.
yea i know it sounds crazy and it probably wasn't a true carve and granted i'm not doing it every single time because whenever i do it, it speeds up the turn and i would brake to slow down
