Default Got myself an Instructor

I've been looking for a suitable instructor for a while now and I think I just hit the jackpot.

Recently stumbled across a little snowboard shop in Kyoto run by an ex pro.
Turns out he was a rider for yonex for 10 years plus and after that a coach for the Yonex team for another 10 years. Now retired he runs a little shop an instructs on the side. His specialty is pipe but he assures me he can coach all round. 10 years coaching pro riders tells me he can.

We quickly became buddies and planned a trip to Nagano just to shred. Whilst in his shop some young American guy came in and started talking about what board he wants. Seems English is not his strong point and I ended up handling the customer for him.

He wants to learn English so he can work with foreign customers (pretty common in Kyoto).

So we will do a trade, 1 hour of English for 1 hour of coaching, both 1 on 1.

Pretty stoked. Bring on December and the Japanese powder.

On a side note his Yonex boards are pretty sick, all carbon no wood whatsoever. Even though he is retired he still gets free boards.
Made in Japan so the quality is no doubt. Anyone ridden one?

Sounds like you've got yourself a fantastic opportunity, have a blast man.

And aren't Yonex snowboards, like, really pricey? Not sure I'd want to sacrifice my wood cores. All carbon just sounds.. flimsy.

I never heard of Yonex snowboards. I know Yonex is a pretty big tennis brand.
