after doing a bunch of back 3s going traverse and a few 270s on little side rollovers i decided to attempt a back 3 on a small jump on my last run.
so far i think i need more speed/air to clear the jump and i need to clean up my arms.
after this attempt i went home. i think i couldve landed it with a few more tries.
anything else i should work on?
you scrubbed way too much speed off at :03. go faster.
you don't need your body to be that counter rotated going into the jump for a back 3 either. try and keep your body a little more stacked over your board and your shoulders closed.
ideally you want to approach from the left side, have a nice smooth heel carve going to your right, then as you approach the bottom of the jump get on your toes and hold a nice tight edge going up the lip.
heres a little picture i made that shows you what your "set up" turns should look like
you want to time it so that you are right in the middle of your toe turn as your front foot is just about to leave the lip or else you'll turn too much and drift back to the left side instead of keeping your momentum going straight off the jump.
once your front foot is at the top of the lip but still on the jump you want to pop with both legs evenly and throw the spin in one nice fluid motion. it helps to think about putting your chin to your shoulder and keep your eyes looking behind you as to keep your spin going smooth and not to jerky looking.
dont stop spotting your landing when you can see down hill cause you may not come around all the way, try to spot something thats a little more towards the left of the landing to keep your spin going a little more before opening up for the landing.

It looks to me like you're trying to force the 360 rotation with a lot of body rotation and not using enough carving pressure to help with the rotation.
As Cro said, you don't seem to be using a proper setup line into the jump which is the key to building that spin pressure.
Besides Cro's diagram above which goes over your setup carve, you also want to make sure your entire drop in approach is correct.
This means knowing where you do a speed check (if you need one at all), when to start your toeside carve etc.

i thought i was doing the setup line, i would start from the left and carve heel side then as i approach I carve on toe side going straight to the jump. what am i doing wrong?
so i dont need to wind up that much? should i try to come off the jump as if im doing a front side shifty?

No, definitely don't use the same technique as a shifty. Shiftys execute exactly the same as a straight air, except you shift your body once you're in the air.
It seems your problem is the carving since you said you thought you were already carving.
From the video footage it doesn't look like you're carving at all, rather you seem to be sliding your turns a little or riding slightly on an edge, but not carving and definitely not creating much pressure.
I'm also assuming that first speed check wasn't a carve (on that note, try not to speed check so close to the jump ramp, you should already be on your setup carve by that stage).
My suggestion is to work on your carving technique on basic runs and practice building carving pressure to spin flatground 360s on greens.
You can do this pretty easily by picturing imaginary run-ins on green runs and pretending you're doing your setup heel carve then your toeside carve then releasing that toeside carve pressure into a 360 spin.
You should be able to feel yourself building pressure when you carve and that's the pressure you need to get used to using to spin the 360, rather than relying so much on spinning with your body.
Can you at least 180 over it yet? If not, I'd go back to getting them on lock before attempting 3's.
like jed said, by the time you are at least about 20-30 feet in front of the jump you should have the speed you need and just be focused on you're set up turns going into the jump, which werent really that bad, but could def be cleaned up a little bit for better momentum off the lip.
i think i get what you guys are saying now, i was doing more of a skidded turn on my setup line instead of actually carving. im doing a speed check in the middle of my set up carve, which i shouldn't be doing.
when i do a front side shifty i have my shoulders fully facing down hill, this is what i meant by coming off the jump as if im doing a shifty. but instead of counter rotating ill just rotate for the 360. is this okay?
