Default Video: Kite Boarding the Columbia River in Hood River Oregon

With hot dry summers and afternoon temperatures in the upper 90`s to low 100`s nearly every day and constant 20-30 knot winds blowing up the Columbia Gogre, this place is a wind surfer or kit boarder`s paradise. Many of my coworkers at Mt Hood Meadows live in Hood River and spend their summers as kit boarding instructors. This takes wake boarding to a whole new level and the really cool part is no one is burning petrol; this is 100% wind powered clean green fun! Check out this cool video taken on the river right in Hood River Oregon. With the snowboarding we have and all the world class white water rafting and the Columbia river, this place is a boarder`s paradise!

While not exactly wake boarding, I want to make another shameless plug. This is the Deshutes River where I play all summer. It is only an hour and a half out of Portland and I run the lower 50 mile section which has awesome whitewater, spectacular geologic formations, abundant wildlife, world class fishing and superb sandy beaches for camps under some of the darkest, star filled night skies in the region.

well... call me a cheater and / or jaded, but i live next to a REAL nice kite boarding spot. the famed 3rd Avenue spot in Foster City is about half a mile from my house, I see these dudes out there alllllll the time, and I'm quite tempted to try this out this summer. If you haven't seen that place, just look it up on youtube. you guys definitely have better snow, but we've got wind from hell. ^_^

Question

Hey Snow how does exactly white river rafting works out for you?

I mean you park your car, setup your boat, get in the river and go. When you are done, how the hell do you get back to your car? I mean you have a boat to haul with you back up.

We take two cars, have one of our wives or a friend pick us up or hitch hike back. During rafting season, it is`nt hard to thumb a lift.
