Va native, Mi boarder...

hello to all...
first post here, so new to the forums obviously. twenty years old, was born in Va, and spent all my younger years skate boarding. shortly after high school i started surfing. i played hockey all the way to my third semester of college, then took the fourth off to play juniors in toronto. once i got back to the states i fell off the hockey wagon, stopped working out, lost 30lbs (was at 200lbs with a BMI of less than 4%. im 6'2"), and started surfing HARD. picked up down hill longboarding, and pool skating as well. can even hit wake to wake on a wake board. thats where i found my passion. i spent the next year at the beach chasing swells and hurricanes up and down the east cost. my heart always seemed to stay in cape hatteras, Nc. but then... life takes over. now im stuck in lake city, Mi. with the prospect of going back to college, getting a degree, and returning to the water. there is NOTHING in lake city, they farm bloody christmas trees! no joke. why Mi you ask? well, in state tuition is REALLY nice, my father being from michigan and in the military enabled him to retain his residency over my twenty years. so this fall i plan to go back.

.
..
blah, blah, blah...
..
.

enter snowboarding: i had never been! lol. spent all my weekends out of town for hockey. but ive always been on a board. i moved here in mid december so when i got he opportunity to go to boyne mountain and rent for free, i couldnt pass it up. i wont say im hooked, i wont say that this is the greatest sport ever, but with snow in the ground and not enough room in the basement to build a mini pipe its something to do on a board. admittedly i enjoy it, or else i wouldnt be here right? picked it up quick, im fairly good with flowing terrain and generating speed. i was dropping into the pipe before the end of day one. been to caberfae as well, but from what ive seen boyne is where its at. add the fact that relatives have a condo there one week out of every month so ill hopefully be making many more trips. if anyone is from the area, laxed, and trying to do some chillage on the slopes i guess youve got a new brah on the mountain. hit me up, and see ya on the slopes.

a couple notes:
-being binded in sucks.
-the pipe... sick.

small hatty- MUNCHED! i dont fit well in waist high barrels. pretty wave... on big days everyone is in the water, no photos.
Laybacks in the parking garage... word to the wise, invest in sliding gloves.

Well, welcome to the site, and welcome to Michigan. I am quite a distance from Boyne (live near Grand Rapids), but I absolutely want to go in a bad way. I probably won't make it there this winter any more, but I am going to definitely try next winter. If I remember, I'll hit you up, and maybe we can get some other people from here to join us.

On another note, I always board at Cannonsburg, so if you're ever in my neck of the woods, hit me up.

where is that located at? ive never heard of it.

lake city is about 20-30 minutes east of cadillac, so luckily boyne is only an hour at the most from me. i liked it, but didnt go to both boynes.

Cannonsburg is a small little resort in Belmont, which is a bit NorthEast of Grand Rapids. According to Google Maps, Lake City is about 2 hours North of Grand Rapids.

I plan on getting up north probably early- to mid-March.

You might want to keep an eye on the Regional chat forum for Southeast Michigan. I know it's not exactly your locale, but it's an active forum here and alot of the metro-Detroit riders do go up north pretty frequently.

Also check out Schuss Mountain/Shanty Creek resort near Gaylord, Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville.

The Otsego Club (normally a private club) is open to public this year on Thursdays and Fridays, it also opens to the public the week of St. patrick's day, when they close for the season.

It's an exceptionally well-organized mountain, short lift lines, wide open runs, decent vertical drop for MI, and park features all over the place if you're in to any of that. IMO, Otsego is the best resort in MI
