Hello all. New to the forum, but not new to the sport. Apologies for the long post.
Started boarding back in the mid eighties, but have been out of the snow for about ten years. Have an unexpected trip to Steamboat, vail, and Aspen coming at the end of the month and am under a serious time crunch to re- gear up. Unfortunately, when I started researching, I have found out I no longer know anything.
Been hitting the local shops to get some "hands on" on the new technology.
Here's who I am...
OG with sore knees, 170 lbs, and primarily spent my time on big mountain and freeriding.
Here's what I'm looking at...
Narrowed board choices down to NS premier F1 or SL. ( 158-161)
Bindings will probably be Ride, but unsure of models.
Boots will probably be Burton Hails. I'm used to Sorels so Im looking for soft with laces.
My question lies within not knowing the new technology. I've never ridden anything with the new (to me) rocker/camber technology. My last board, which I'll probably bring on this trip also, is an old Craig Kelly mystery air.
I will also be doing east coast ice from time to time, so I'm a little concerned about the F1 being too chattery.
Also looking for input on bindings. The guys at the shop have their own opinions, but they seemed to be biased to park and pipe stuff. I was having a little difficulty sorting everything out. I'm used to soft and flexable which seems to go against modern thinking.
Any opinions you could offer on board choice and especially bindings would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
