Hey, I'm 18 and just started snowboarding yesterday on a trip to Ontario, Canada. I live just across the border in Michigan. It was my first time on a board, and I loved it so I'm going to be investing in some new gear for next season.
I visited Searchmont in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario as part of a high school trip for the seniors. Everyone told me that I should start on skis if I've never boarded, but I thought that with my (slight) background in skateboarding, plus my logic that 1 surface is easier to control than 2 (especially seeing 90% of my classmates cross their skis every time) that I could do alright on a snowboard. After a few wonky attempts on the bunny hill, I was starting to get the hang of it, and actually impressed the instructor on the main hill and earned unlimited ski lifts for the rest of the day
Sadly, the season is over now, but I'm looking to start up the next season, and in the meantime want to learn a bit before I drop the cash on a board and jump on a mountain again
