Hi,
I probably committed a bit of a faux pas by making my first post in these forums an inquiry to find a Road Trip partner to help defer the cost of gas. Let me take this opportunity to make a public "mea culpa" and Properly introduce myself! In my defense, I have been goin' "Freakin' NUTS" waiting for snow so I can get out and get more of than the few weeks of (marginal conditions) riding I have so far on my board! In my enthusiasm to find a place that I might help overcome some of the limitations of living in the suburbs of detroit, I rushed right into a proposal! (...probably explains my general "luck" with the ladies as well!!) ;D Just started riding last Feb. (Took the "Discover Mich." deal @ Mt Brighton, for a lesson, rental & lift ticket for 40 bucks! Did pretty well, especially since I'm a "Non Skier") First night, Icy, hard runs, on my last run, hooked an edge & crashed! HARD!! Learned a new term that night,.. "Hip Pointer"!! ![]() Hurt like hell, but I was out again the next weekend. Conditions still really sucked. Like riding on Iced Cement! Crashed again, same hip! Almost needed to be stretcherd that time, but I managed to get up 'n get home under my own power! Even after all that,.. I'm HOOKED!! This is the most fun I've had standing up!!! Since you can't ride a Harley in Mich. in the winter,.. Snowboarding ties with the bike for First Place! Got an Arbor Roundhouse 163W, Burton Cartel's, and Thirty Two ST Boa's! (Got late season deals on all from REI!) That's how obsessed I am! Ran out and set the plastic to smokin' two weeks after first stepping on a board! Turned 51 two weeks ago, took a long weekend and split for Boyne Mnt. Thank God they were open! (I was prepared to drive to Minn. if I had to!) 3 days, about 18-19 hours of solid riding on the only two runs open. But, I was amazed & surprised to find that I was as good or even a bit better than I was back at the end of Mar.! Fried my calves & thighs! Cramped somthin' awful the first night! And LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!!!! I hope to make some friends here,.. Maybe find a riding partner or two,.. Do some learning & get some schooling maybe, and hopefully improve as much as I can, as fast as I can! I'll leave it at that for now! Chomps1211 Last edited by chomps1211; 12-23-2011 at 11:12 PM. |

Well, This is my 1st Full season so at the time I posted this I didn't have a "Local" hill. I have been going to Pine Knob for the last couple weekends. It seems like the biggest in the area! (...longest runs etc.)
I got my 1st lesson (...and first couple "Hip Pointer" injuries!! ) @ Mt. Brighton last weekend of Jan. 2011! since then, I hit Brighton 2 or 3 more times. Even tried the chute they have for snowboarders on the toboggan hill out at Kensington! (that chute was way too narrow, steep & icy for a noob, but I fell down it a few times anyway!!) ![]() Made several trips to Boyne in Mar. & Apr. before the snow melted completely. I liked it there, but it's too far & too expensive to use as a local! A 4-5 hour drive, each way is just too much for any "Day" trips by myself! Might give Alpine a try today before it gets too warm & starts raining. (...Frickin" RAINING!!! Mid. Jan. in Michigan, and it's STILL FRICKIN' RAINING!!! WTF!!) but I Digress,.. I hear Alpine's pretty small, but it's a half hour/ 40 min. closer to me than Pine Knob so it's worth a look I guess! So, Where's your Hill?

Hey Leo,
Thanks for the link. I have read a few of the posts there already. Not all 165 pages of them, but just generally skimming thru them. So far I'm doing a lot of looking around, reading various posts that look interesting or pertinent to me. I'm still trying to get a feel for the people & info in these forums! Most folks here seem to be FAR more experienced and knowledgeable about riding than I am, , (...not to mention quite a bit younger than myself!) but at some point I'm hoping I will find some people that I don't annoy (...and vise versa) ...maybe just a pal or two to meet up with & ride the local hills on occasion!Anyway, see you in the lift lines!
