Hey All!

My name is Jordan, I grew up in Northern Maine and have been skiing since I was about 10 (now 25) or so. I took up snowboarding when I was 16 since a lot of my friends transitioned to the sport from skiing. However, I just recently (last year) got my first setup. I've decided to dedicate myself to predominately snowboarding now since it's a lot easier on my knees and I'm having more fun doing it!

My current setup is a 2011 Burton TWC Standard 158W with Mission bindings and Moto boots. I'm a 6'0" 185 lb size 10.5 boot intermediate to advanced level rider and am looking to get a new board this year. I ride mostly all-mountain, I'd say 60% groomers, 20% powder, and 20% park. I'm currently considering the 2014 Burton Custom camber and the 2014 Burton Custom X. If anyone has any recommendations that would be great. I'm looking for a board that likes going fast, carving, and does well with man-made snow/icy conditions which is why I am leaning toward the Custom X.

A fellow Mainer! Welcome!

I have a similar story as you, used to ski, knees hurt, switched to riding at 15 and never looked back. Sugarloaf is my home, but grew up in Bangor. Where you from?

Did you rent board for all those years? I don't think you can go wrong with the Custom, or Custom X if you want something stiffer and less geared for park. I think you could benefit from trying to demo some boards though (not that many demo days in Maine though.) For the Maine ice, of all the boards I have tried, my 2 top preferences for ice are Lib Tech (TRS)/Gnu (Riders Choice) and Never Summer (SL). Within the parenthesis are the models that are in the ballpark of what you are looking for.

Thanks for the welcome! It's great to see another Mainer!

I grew up in Presque Isle and spent a LOT of time at Bigrock in Mars Hill when I was younger. Went to school at Maine Maritime Academy and now live in Old Town. I bounce back and forth between Sunday River, Sugarloaf, and Bigrock now.

I either borrowed friend's extra set-ups or rented for the years that I didn't have a board. I'd say last year was my first year when I snowboarded almost the entire year and my skill level went WAY up when I was able to focus solely on snowboarding.

I have a week long trip booked for Park City, UT in mid-January so I could try to demo some stuff while I was out there, but I'd really like to have something before then. Thank you for the info on Lib Tech and Never Summer boards, I'll give them a look.
