Hiking Red Mountain Resort - Grey Mtn

So even though my local hill White Water is open my buddy who lives in Rossland wants to go for a hike up Grey. It's the newest mtn to be added to Red and looks pretty awesome. Not exactly sure how far we will get, but either way it should be epic. With all the snow we got over here about a week ago, the super cold temps the snow has stayed in very good shape. Needless to say I am taking Charlie out to slash some pow. I'll try to report back with some pics and such! :yahoo:

Sounds awesome. Take some pics.

Just be sure to think avalanche terrain because you will be in it. I love getting the goods at the resort before they open it.

Well... for one Grey was way more of a hike that we anticipated. Two, it was fucking cold, like -29c in the shade..... too cold to take photos. Literally my phone was frozen to my pocket in my jacket and my camera shutter would not open... lol Lastly the snow sucked balls. Red does not have nearly the coverage of depth that White does already. All and all it was a good snow shoe with a friend. I did get to ride my Cartels on my Charlie for the first time and I must say they sure are comfy. I will have to give them a good real day of riding to fully test, but I like them thus far. In other thoughts I am seriously thinking of replacing my DOA for a BSOD. The BSOD just seems like a better board for where I ride considering I do no park jumps and never hit the rails etc at all. Future plans I guess as I need to complete the Billy Goat split first!

Update us when you do get a good day up there - was there for one day last season and it was just awful conditions but the place still looked like somewhere I want to go back to in good snow. Grey in particular looked like it'd be class once added so I still feel like we missed out (seriously, it was horrendous!) and would love to hear how it goes because damn but I'm intrigued by what the place could be.

Heh, you got the experience the darkside of earning your turns. That does happen sometimes. Hopefully not often. I generally get one or two days of that. I figure I still get to do a nice hike and get a work out. It is still a lot better when you get quality turns in.

Trey, I was thinking the same thing about the new BSOD, but after last week at revy my DOA seems to be pretty rad.

It doesn't have much float here in AB, but no probs in the revy pow.

Now I'm torn between a Charlie for deep days, or the bsod for the one quiver wonder.

Yeah man totally what I am thinking. I feel like I could just ride the bsod all day everyday for the kind of riding I do. The Charlie is awesome on deep days but like 25+. Also it is not great on tracked out crud, just likes the fresh. It seems to me that the bsod with camber under foot the slight taper tail and the rocker nose you could ride it in the fresh and keep riding in the crud. Pffff wife would kill me considering I just bought a split.....lol
