Default If you could live anywhere in BC...

... for one winter, where would it be?

I'm doing some long-term planning and it involves taking my wife and kids on a three month snowboarding holiday. It's looking like 2022 (don't laugh!!) but hey gotta sort out $$$ and other "real life" shit!

I've done the circuit from Vancouver to Kamloops to Golden to Fernie to Rossland and back to Vancouver over a couple of weeks and lived in Rossland as a student for a winter so have some knowledge already.

Maybe you locals can tell me where would be a good base to load up on season passes? The plan would involve renting a house and hiring a 4wd of some sort.

So far I'm thinking Revelstoke.

Don't suggest other countries please as we <3 Canada

If I promise to be good, eat all my vegetables and make my bed each morning, can I be one of your kids?

I'm planning based around a 3rd kid who doesn't exist yet so your best bet would be to convert to Buddhism, die, and reincarnate as my 3rd born.

I guess I should add more requirements!

- Area we live needs to have a resort suitable for kids aged 7-11.
- Needs to have good access to other great resorts.

Will look into Terrace and Smithers though

What level of riding / what type of riding are you looking for?

Can't really say what level or type of riding, I have no idea how good my kids will be that far ahead.

I'm just trying to find a good location that caters for many possibilities. Revelstoke sounds good because it's a large resort with many other resorts close by. Can also disappear east to Lake Louise and Banff to mix it up.

Yeah Revelstoke would be it for me too. Or maybe Fernie.

I'm asking because parts of the Okagagan (Silver Star, Big White, Sun Peaks) are really family friendly and are located closer to bigger cities (Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops) that have more amenities / jobs etc

But they are lacking in gnarly terrain - Revelstoke definitely has more of that and access to Kicking Horse and loads of back-country (but maybe not the best place to take beginner / low intermediates etc). On the other hand, Revelstoke is a really cool small town, but there's not a whole lot to do there other than riding / snowmobiling etc in the winter (and highway 1 is closed a lot in the winter)

Every part of BC seems to have its own pros / cons - just depends on what you're looking for

Google maps is your friend.
Mark all the resorts/ski areas you're interested in... go to the town closest to the most of them, or the closest to your favourite one.

Probably Nelson, Revelstoke or Kelowna, depending on your priorities. With family, i'd probably do Kelowna: you get Big White right there and less than 3 hr to Revelstoke and Sun Peaks, about ~5hr to Whistler and Nelson.
