Default Whistler Accommodation Jan-March

I have read that if you arrive in late December/January most of the accommodation has already been taken and you will be kind of SOL. I am going to be looking for accommodation for ONE for Jan-March (3 months) as close to the village or creekside as possible, for as cheap as possible (strongly prefer a private room though).

Possible for $800-1k?

Possible. There is a whistler housing Facebook group which can be handy for people looking for accoms later in the season.

I honestly think that would be quite ambitious. For sharing a room (probably not walking distance to lifts), it's possible.

I found shared room in the Creekside House #1/#2 for $750 which appears to be walking distance to lifts.

What do you think Creekside/Village 1BR in a 2-5BR house would run? Or is it the shortness of stay/late season arrival that will be the issue?

Thanks

I was looking for a friend this season and it's nearly impossible to find anything reasonable once December hits. Creekside will definitely be more affordable, lived there last year myself, may be walkable depending on the exact location. Do you know where the house is located?

It's really a combination of the two problems, but you make luck out with a room in a house.

Your best shot would probably be subletting a room from somebody travelling for a month. Unfortunately you can't post wanted ads on that Facebook group, but there's always Craigslist. Getting your own apartment for a month mid-season would probably be ~$3,000 I'd guess.

Yeah, a room in a house is what I'd like, but it appears that it may be a challenge.

The Creekside House is:
2121 Lake Placid Rd
which looks like a pretty easy walk

That's a really good location for Creekside, very short (5 minute) walk to the lift. Also close to all the Creekside bars, grocery store, liquor store, etc.

Might be worth locking that up if you don't mind a shared room. Otherwise, just gotta gamble and check for sublets in the winter.

If I am looking for just ONE month (March 1-30), do you think a shared room (@ creekside) for $750 is still a good deal, or is this late enough in the season that I will be able to find better/cheaper/private things on Craigslist etc.?

Yeah, I don't think you'll be able to lock down something for less than $25/night. You might get lucky with a sublet late in the season, but won't know until next year.
