This has been a gratuitous bump because the open house ends tomorrow...

So what's the deal with open house, are they going to shake me down for money ?

My only previous experience with patrol has been getting in shit for poaching early season lines in closed areas.

Also, I can't ski.

Am I still a candidate, should I make an effort rock up tonight ???

Sorry man just got into work now and checking e-mails...

The open house is your chance to come and meet us and see what we're all about, but you can also setup a shadow day at any hill in the area (we can get discounted lift tickets for shadowers too). It's another good way to see if it'd be something you're interested in.

The rookie course is about $300 and that covers everything for your first year. Lots of time involvement though in year one. After that a few days a month minimum.

Best part about being a patroller is it's not called "poaching" it's called "run checking!" :yahoo:

95% of people on the patrol ski, but there are a few of us on boards. Norquay doesn't allow boarder to patrol.

You need to be a competent boarder. Comfortable on all terrain, but certainly not a pro star. You don't need any first aid or medical experience. You need to be willing to put in the time. For me the benefits far outweigh the cons, but everyone has to decide if it's right for them...

If you feel like seeing what it's all about at Nakiska I can setup a shadow day there, or I can put you in touch with the people that can set it up for Lake Louise or COP.

Patrollers like drinking beer. :wavetowel2:

Only been to Nakiska 3 times, but I'm definitely game to shadow.

Louise too, as I know that place pretty well.

Medical experience, check. Won me a first aid competition back with scouts when I was like 9 or something. Plus my sister's in school to be a nurse in Australia, so it probably runs in the family.

Cool, yeah it's good fun, and lots of benefits if you're willing to put the time in. Still time to register for the course this year, but I'd only do that if you're pretty sure you want to patrol, as the course is $300 or so.

Otherwise in Nov/Dec just remind me again and I'll set you up on a shadow day. Nakiska is actually good fun most of the time. Some people may not think so, but I enjoy it there...
