Default Did I mess Up - Trip to Fernie: March 11 - 17

So, my family has a trip booked to Fernie March 11 - 17.

I know so far its been a somewhat dry year, but I figured with a 56 inch base it would just be a matter of praying that it snows at least a bit while we are there.

I've seen so much negative talk about the season. Is it that bad? Will I be able to enjoy Fernie?

Honestly, I'm in the same boat as you every year. When booking this far out it's basically a toss up. That being said, apperantly the conditions have been pretty dreadful in Fernie from what I have heard. I usually like to stay around banff if I don't know, that way you have lake louise, sunshine, and even kicking horse to choose from. Even on a bad day though, you can still have a ton of fun in Fernie.

This is what I'm hoping.

While some fresh snow while we are there would be nice, my main concern right now is just interpreting peoples definition of "awful." If they are referring to a lack of powder, that is fine. My real concern is if I'm gonna be travelling to a mountain that is not worth riding.

I dont think that is the case, here are Fernies webcams from from lunchtime today:

Looks tracked out, but fine:

Again, certainly rideable:

More of the same:

When you go a bit lower, things do look positively dreadful"

We booked FWA catskiing in fernie about 6 months ago, meant to be doing it next weekend but it might be cancelled. Right now FWA are saying that it's still on and if we cancel we lose all our money - i have until tuesday to cancel my hotel otherwise it's full whack. Going to have to make a judgement call on tuesday, but If FWA cancel last minute ill be pissed with a $500+ hotel bill to pay for, doesnt look like there's any major dumps in the forecast between now and next week. Ballsacks.

As said above - Banff is actually pretty good now - sunshine in particularly. I'm going up tomorrow so will do a trip report. Kicking Horse has les coverage than usual in the lower half but it's been my favourite place to ride this season.

Revvy was having a great season until the monsoon last week (I was there, it sucked so hard).. Not sure how soon it will recover.

Everywhere is warm, I've been depressed.

There's a chance things could improve over the next month. See the bottom blurd on the link below. http://m.accuweather.com/en/weather-...clues/42260793

Its not the lack of pow that's crappy so much as no one likes to ride hard pack that the melt/freeze cycles leave behind.

Normally when I'm out west the locals teach me about pow riding. Maybe this year I will teach all you spoiled brats about carving down ice - us Ontarian get pretty good at that. . .

I cried after writing that . . . Thank god I'm doing a season out west next year.
I hope that weather report you linked comes true. At least I have hope now.

In this part of the world is all about hard-packed groomers. I did see some people heading out on various skin tracks yesterday, but I can't imagine there's much out there.

Bring your mountain bike

FWA cancelled our cat trip for next Saturday - I can see Fernie closing early this year following castle.

Was at sunshine on Sunday - gong show for family day but still at least there is coverage (though not as much as usual for this time of the year).
