Word up. I'm hoping this snowy front will dump in interior BC next week and I'm looking for suggestions / help on choosing our next road trip from Calgary. The two main options seem to be Big White & Revvy (2 days in each) or Whitewater & RED (same - 2 days at each).
I've ridden Revvy a few times and love it, other than that I've not been to the other three so I'm eager to check them out.
I've been to all of those spots, and it just really depends what you are looking for. I'd say go to Red and Whitewater if for no other reason that you haven't been there. If the weather cooperates, it's going to be fantastic.
Kicking Horse and Revelstoke are a great choice and you'll love it at both these spots, but Red and Whitewater are two incredible mountains as well. With Red, you can literally drop in anywhere from the top of the mountain—360 degrees—and as long as you don't pass the cat track that takes you back to the lift, you're fine to explore. It's all fall line and after it snows, there's pow for days. I once watched a local complain about the lift line there a couple years ago, and there were 3 people in front of him. (Coming from Whistler at the time, I laughed). Red's got a killer hit run too...
And Whitewater's amazing too, but it's a 15 min drive outside of Nelson with no ski in ski out, if that's what you're looking for. If you go, hit up the stuff under the Glory Ridge chair...
All said, I don't think you can really make a bad choice here. KHMR is nice and steep with chutes everywhere to challenge you, and apparently, Revy is incredible, but I've still never been... Hopefully this year.
Big White is not as conditions-dependant as any of the other mountains. No it is not as gnarly, but there is heaps of gnarly stuff there and generally a lot more variety. I'm a big fan of Big White but have never been to Red or Whitewater, which I hear are epic when the snow is flying.
I vote Big White/Revy, and if there is heaps of snow in the forecast you could modify it to Kicking Horse/Revy. I mean Big White is an absolute blast in the powder but if steeps are the name of the game Revy and KH are your best options.

Agreed. Big White probably has the most / best grooming out of any of those resorts
I just remember WW as having 2 lifts accessing like 33% of the terrain, if you are super into hiking you can easily get to the rest of the terrain and get freshies all day.
I jut love Revy too much to keep it off the list but Big White and Red would be a great combo as well, and it's not a bad drive from Big White to Rossland. Since you've already been to Revy might be worth checking out some other hills.

Thanks for all the hints and advice guys - I do love kicking horse and would say it's my second most frequented hill. For this trip we're looking a bit farther afield, powder depending. Looks like there's a little system moving in this week but when compared with the current forecasts for Wyoming it's pretty low so we're going to road trip it down to Jackson and ride JHMR and Grand Targhee for a long weekend, hopefully the forecasts hold and it'll be a road trip to remember.:jumping1:
If you aren't waiting in line for first tram at JHMR after a storm I would say go to the Ghee. JHMR gets tracked out super fast and Targhee holds the goods for days due to less people and a much better aspect.
They are boring mountains that aren't worth the distance / effort to get to. Overrated!
I hear Colorado is nice
