Pulled the trigger on the Swiss Chalet, of the places in my price range it got far and away the best reviews.
Super stoked to be heading up there in February for 3 days on the hill. All I need is my new board. Thanks for all the feedback. |

I looked at almost every place I could find via the web. Didn't fair as well on TripAdvisor.com, came in at #11 of 15 hotels rated. Swiss Chalet came in at #3 only behind the Sutton and Best Western which were close to double the price.
Looks like a nice place though. They offer snowmobile packages and not ski & snowboard packages which is a littl strange. |

I'm sure Revelstoke Lodge is alright too... never been inside there though. But it doesn't really stand apart. Besides the few hotels mentioned above in this thread, Revy is full of a dozen other "basic motels" which all offer about the same deal (basic room, ski package, same prices)
This all is irelevant though - if you're going to Revy you're going to shred some sick mountain and great pow... all you need is a bed that works. (unless you want to pimp it at Nelsen Lodge). So anything works really. |

Thanks again for all the info. Spent 4 nights at the Swiss Chalet. Really enjoyed the place. Clean rooms, friendly staff and a decent breakfast spread. Rooms are a little cozy and if you have noisy neighbors like we did one morning you will hear them. Train noise was a non-issue IMO since they weren't blowing their horns.
Enjoyed RMR even though we didn't get any fresh snow. Had 3 good groomer days, especially the last day which was really sunny. Hit several restaurants in town and on the slopes. Everyone was very friendly. Look forward to coming up again and hopefully getting some of that famous powder. |

There aren't big towns in the BC interior so I assume rentla car prices and flights will be more. Gas is more expensive, around $4.50 a gallon, and there isn't alot of lodging options so they tend to be more too. There are a lot of nice resorts up there though. We ran into several people who were doing multi-week trips hitting several resorts. |

There is no difference in the exchange rate, and there hasn't been a significant one in a couple years now... XE: (CAD/USD) Canadian Dollar to US Dollar Rate
(but you are totally right about most things costing a little more in Canada compared to the states) |

That's true and it's been close to 1 to 1 for a while. I guess I'm old enough to remember when we used to get a 20-40% "discount" when we went up north.
A lot of things were priced accordingly to reflect the exchange rate disparity but never went down when the Canadian dollar got stronger. An 80+ CDN lift ticket didn't seem that high when the Canadian dollar was 0.65 on the US dollar but now that is way more than anything in Washington or Oregon. I think some of us took the US dollar being stronger as a birth rite. I guess Americans going to Australia right now are having a real rude awakening. Last edited by SBK; 02-23-2012 at 05:57 PM. |
