Also, think I may have seen timbo slice's ninja turtle instructor buddy up here at Cypress last night and today, maybe even last weekend too. Guy was teaching some kids to ride park. Dude wears alotta green!
We got first chair at Cypress Thurs am after the wed dump.....I have to say this would rate in the top 5 pow days I have had in my life time!!!! OB was spectacular....at one point my son turned to me with pow half way up his thigh and said, "Dad, this is what its all about isnt it?" as he continued to use the bent over snow covered trees as jumps only to land in untracked pow.....I damn new shed a tear I hope he catches up on his school work he missed that day:laugh:
Gotta love the annual Feb snow dump on the North Shore hills...Life is good!!!!:yahoo:[/QUOTE]
Ya, Thur was the day. I shut er down Wed night.
When I left my car had more than a foot on it.
Not everywhere on it, but if you were to attach a string from the front of the hood to the roof, that area was filled in & growing.
I had a feelin' Thur might be awesome, but was hoping the blizzard kept going up till @ least Thur night & clear up for Fri morn.
But hey, it couldn't have worked out better.
Thank you so much for tearing that shit up for me.
Had you not have, I would never have thought to go in there.
Hey Vancouver peeps, quick question...which of the resorts close to Vancouver should we hit on our way back from Whistler. We are thinking of doing some night riding and don't care about hitting the park. This might switch to day riding the next day so if the answer is different for that let me know. We will be coming back on a Friday from 3 days at Whistler so just looking for some nice cruisers likely and taking it easy before heading back to the States late Saturday.
Does Cypress usually have some pow left after 1-2 day after a dump? I'm thinkin of goin up there on saturday but not sure if there will be pow left after thursday and friday snow. I usually go to Whistler so I don't know about the pow spots at Cypress.
Anywhere easily accessible, there won't be any or very little.
There are places that the average person can't get to, that will still have some.
If your better than 90% of the people there, you could have insane pow lines all day.
I went last Friday. They didn't get any new snow the night before & everything was pretty tracked out.
It was also really busy, but I went in an area marked "Danger Permanently Closed"
I had the best day I've ever had, don't think I crossed another track, other than my own all day.
If you go by there & peek in & it looks awesome?
Trust me, go in there. It's just like it looks @ the top all the way to the bottom.
It could very well be, the best day you've had to date:dunno:
Thanks for the tips. I won't go into the closed/outside of boundary area, I was thinking more in the trees (nothing too tight though, I HATE tight trees) or runs that not a lot of people go to?
Seymour has closed Mystery Chair today through Thursday for routine maintenance. Described in detail on their website, and it sounds reasonable, but I wonder if they're charging a reduced rate for the 3 days?
Cypress claims to have the largest night skiing in western Canada, as a matter of fact, as well as having great lights. There's lots of trails off the lighted runs that are still good, as well as probably some "closed" runs that would probably still be rideable. I go up there every now and then on a Friday night if there's a hockey game. Get some runs in before and between periods, eat dinner and watch the game in the bar.
The lineups are short when they are there on early Friday eves before they clear right out entirely later on. The crowds tend to favor bright sunny days (even if it's not great conditions otherwise) over snowy days when the snow is fresher and better. The daytime weekend zoo usually starts to clear out later in the afternoon as it gets darker and "cold"
It was almost snowing in New West today. Almost headed up tonight. Might roll in after work tomorrow, and Friday night. We'll see!
Got the chance to go to Baker on the 1-3rd of March... I was dead set keen until I saw it is going to be 'heavy rain' the night before we leave. Will be my only chance to go see Baker though :dunno:
So, last weekend at Hemlock with timmytard... after riding through the dump on Saturday, we got up there at about 9 and had tons of fresh tracks. Wide open carves through some open steeps. Snow was heavy but it was still prettt sweet. Lots of other side of the rope riding across some big cliffs and gullies.
Some shots of Sunday:
timmytard doing a drop and ride down a steep with a coffee in hand and a smoke between the lips - no spill. Reminded me of Julian or the Lebowski... "CAREFUL, MAN. THERE'S A BEVERAGE HERE!"

Baker was epic today, they only opened the 6 chair for a couple hours in the morning though. It was snowing sideways all day, heavy storm winds, tracks filling in as fast as they were being made. Tomorrow will be better.
I was wondering what the story was. With the Mystery maintenance last week and now this, I'm feeling a little nervous about tomorrow. What else can go wrong?
So, it's Monday morning, Seymour is open again, there's been a crapton of snow in the last 48 hours, and it's untouched because it was closed yesterday. And I'll be up there in two hours for the whole day.
Cypress website said it was snowing earlier and the temps are dropping. Still... :/
Baker was rad last weekend. Lots of fresh to be found with more coming down on Sunday. Looks like tomorrow would be a good one but I'm thinking about going for my first at Whistler. It's supposed to be decent from the looks of the forecast. Anything to recommend? I like to freeride but usually spend most of my time looking for features to hit and air to catch. Might wanna work on learning some more tricks. Just learning to ride park as well.
Whistler was soggy as fuck today, but deeeeeeeep. Alpine has been closed the last couple days, so it could be epic, especially with the cooler temps sucking some of the moisture out.
If I were you, hit 7th heaven till your legs explode.
Our last day out there was the 1st and initially was pumped because of the amount of snow they got, then it started raining, and the "powder" sucked balls. No Alpine, and just crap conditions really. Made it a half day, local places were closed, it was pretty much a bummer of a way to end the trip. Not sure I will ever make it back, but glad I got to experience it. It is HUGE, but the bottom half of the mountain is pretty much useless. 7th Heaven area and dropping in off Harmony ridge into Camelback and Horseshoes were probably the best part of the trip. AND just a question....are there more Canadians or Asians in Vancouver?
Off topic: I have to ask, with that username are you Irish?
