Might as well start dreaming early.

It's June 23rd and this summer is shit. Let's skip this wimpy summer and give us back the winter.

Booya!

FYI, I went snowshoeing on Seymour today. They got a pretty good dump last night, and it was snowing on and off when I was there. I went up Manning to the point where it merges with the Brockton area exit. Couple of things -- first, they've widened that whole area so you don't have that narrow little bottleneck where you're always dodging human traffic cones, and second they've scraped down the Brockton exit so that I think you could get out of Brockton without having to take your back foot out, if you get enough speed coming out.

Anyway, the important thing is that they're finally getting snow. Another foot or two of dump and they'll be able to start running the cats to smooth things out.

Here's a couple of guys today on Manning run, working on their own jump

Well, I took the new Slackcountry up to Cypress yesterday.

Saw Thatguy @ the bottom so we went up to Skychair for some of that sweet powder I had been ridin' the day before.

I rode it for less than 30 seconds, literally 15 feet & snapped it in half.
I'm pretty sure people on Grouse could hear me cursing @ the top of my lungs.

I didn't want to take it up before, just encase I put a scratch on it.
It was absolutely pristine, still is except it's in 2 pieces.

FFFUUUUUCCCCKKKKKKKK.........

@ least I brought 3 boards with me, so it didn't end my day, just my happiness.

TT

What are some good tree runs in whistler/black comb, and where do I find them. Everything I seem to run into is dense bush that I don't dare adventure into.

I've heard of a run called "Christmas trees" but no idea where it is?

One of my favourite tree runs (and also relatively safe for a someone new to Whistler) is the trees downhill from Crystal Chairlift.

If you're at the bottom of Crystal Chairlift, face downhill and look right. You'll see a sign talking about the 'Enchanted forest' or something like that.

That's a tree run that runs down the hill and you'll exit onto a cat track on the other side of the tree run.

There's plenty of nice tree runs towards the bottom of 7th heaven too, which you should be able to find relatively easily since those are hard to miss. That whole alpine area isn't open yet though, but it'll be open this Saturday (or so they've told us).

Seymour Season Started!

Seymour opened yesterday (Friday), and I went up for my first snowboarding session of the season.

The snow is surprisingly good quality, given the shitty late beginning with all the rain and high temps and such. I guess the dumps this week were good and cold enough to give us the good stuff. No mush, no snowcrete, and none of that scritchy sound you get sometimes when the snow's been compressed one too many times.

And the new Mystery chair is fantastic :3tens: Although it did stop several times today, I'm not sure if that's because of mechanical issues or because someone fell getting off. Sure does cut down lift and wait times.

Lodge chair is not open, and Pete's Run is not open. I think the Brockton chair was open for part of the day, but I didn't go there.

The website says they'll be opening for night skiing on Monday.

Boy do we ever get raped locally. They asked 410$ plus tax ($460) for the new Flow nx2 GTs bindings. I got them online for $274.

When I asked if they price match I got laughed at, so how am I supposed to spend my money locally and support the local shops.

If it was a 20-50$ difference I could swallow the loss, but god damn it's $200.

/rant.

I agree with this, except I won't for instance go into a store, try on boots, find the right size, then buy online. If the store provides me a service like that, I consider it the cost of the service.

For Flow bindings, where I already know what size I need and what model I want, fukit.

What I don't get is that you can't tell me that a jacket costs more to be shipped to Vancouver than Seattle from China. They probably come from the same ship, land at the same port, distributed by same trucks.

Two weeks ago, I went to banana republic to buy a bridge coat. Robson store charges 310$ plus tax, online at the American side 250$ no tax, plus a 40% discount code. The Fuq? Like seriously.

Again, went to the boardroom sale last week, saw a sick airblaster jacket for sale, it was down to 199$ from 400$. I though, sweet deal.

Went on dogfunk, found it for 87$.

It's not about wasting anyone's time, or service, we simply get raped. You're telling me, someone's 30 minutes of blah blah, is worth 200$. Not to me, until they lower the prices, I'm not buying local anymore.

It's a free market.

We're not supporting local shops, but personal greed.

Do you know why cars are more expensive here than in the states?

Because Canadians are "willing to pay more", that's right, no reason at all, but because we're willing. Go look it up, that was a focus group question that car makers did to base their prices.

A number of years ago, when the Canadian $ got close to the American $ (for the first time in a long time) people were asking why the Canadian car companies were still charging 20% more for the same car. Someone (I think it was the CEO of Volvo Canada, but can't be certain) said something to the tune of "because we can". Well, people started going across the border to buy cars. Various car companies (incuding Volvo) have taken steps to try to stop it, but it's like trying to keep a herd of cats away from tuna.

Nowadays, vehicle prices are coming down some plus the car companies offer all kinds of rebates and incentives that net out to a much better price. So yeah, I understand consumer revolts.

My "local" shop sells mid-to-high end K2.

Sportchek sells low-to-mid end K2.

K2's MSRP is the same for the US and Canada.

My "local" shop charges well above MSRP for the exact same product that Sportchek sells at MSRP.

The owner has admitted that his hot tub sales prop up the business.

There's a reason why I never see anybody in there except during "sales".

Finally got up to Seymour last night! The snow was alright, but visibility was the worst I have ever seen..

Was only there for an hour and a bit but it was good to dust off the cobwebs a bit! I pretty much didn't ride last season so the first run was a bit.. How do I put it.. Sketchy! Took me a few runs to get the confidence back.

The new mistery chair was a huge improvement. I have to admit though, it freaked the hell out of me. it was dark, foggy, couldn't even see the chair in front of me, I was alone on my chair and for the first time I was convinced it was going to crash and burn somehow. It was like a scene from a bad horror movie.

Haha.. Yeah, not having been to Seymour in two years (and only ever having been up there twice), I had no idea where the runs were. Every intersection, I had to stop, look for a hint of a sign, hop over to within 5 feet of it, so I could see where the runs went.

Apparently it's been dumping today, I can't go tonight cause I have to make up some time at work, then tomorrow's my wife's xmas party GRRRRR. It better be good on Thursday!

I've ridden some sick open glades riders left of peak to creek run, just below alpine level. Problem is, you have to ride it out down to the gondola at creekside... and if it's shit down there you've got a long ride out :D I guess that's why it gets less tracked

Yes...tonight was awesome....as was last night, and sun, and sat lol. The new chair sure does make a difference with the line up times and the number of laps you can get in a short period of time. Also Northlands and the Pit have great flow with the current set up of features......thank you Parks Crew! :eusa_clap::thumbsup:

SEYMOUR UPDATE!

Was snowing moderately tonight. Snow was fairly light and accumulating nicely with no crowds!:yahoo: It was snowing down to the old lookout on the drive home......the drive was a slick one!
Northlands was closed because Coastal Riders were filming but they finally have a nice booter built. The Pit was also closed and it looked like they were setting up for Premature Jibulation this sat. Some new features have been added and it is looking great. Be warned if you plan on hitting either of the boxes in Mushroom park......they are icy and crusty....anything other than 50-50 is an edge grab waiting to happen.

It is shaping up to be a great weekend!:D
