Yeah, I was just about to post on that. Woo! Y'know, if I'm given a choice of a late november opening and the normal December rain/snow crap, or an early December opening and a crapton of the good stuff, I'll take the latter!
Going up on Sunday. Hey grafta, changed my jacket again  I'll have to get a pic so you'll recognize me.
It's snowing in Coquitlam this morning (woohoo!). But basement dog keeps whining at the door then refusing to go out. I think she's looking for the door that doesn't lead to a cold back yard. This is the dog that will bound around Seymour for hours in several feet of snow. WTF?
Anyway, betcha it's just puking on the mountains right now. This will be a GREAT weekend.

It's funny how some dogs do that. My ex's dog used to dive & swim under water to get rocks. It could also take directions while searching for a duck(left, right, back)
But it walked like a little **** dog in the rain, scared to get his toes wet.
Was up Seymour today for a couple hours around 3:00 pm.....it is puking up there and the snow is not your typical west coast wet, it was dry and light!!!! Snowing all the way down past Baden Powell. Made for a slow 30kph drive down in a line up of cars not suitable for driving in these conditions. Anyways tomorrow is shaping up to be a killer pow day....
Yes dude! Seymour was nice this eve. Left around 7.30 this eve after some fun laps. I love the hits and drops when it gets soft like that. Hell yes
The area around Falcon Chair and Powder chair provides a lot of fun. Corkscrew and Flagpole glades are pretty good. The Cliff area is pretty steep and great on a pow day.
i could put this in the sale thread, but since im too lazy to ship something im only going to sell it locally, and feel like giving a crazy good deal to someone here for xmas
I have last years Burton Vapor with this years Burton genesis bindings on it. would cost about 2k retail. I paid about $1,300 or something. Because it xmas im going to sell the whole set up for $700 under two conditions. You need to buy it and pick it up monday evening downtown.
Thinking of hitting up one of the locals tomorrow, well most likely grouse as its the only one I can get to on my own. What are the conditions like up there?
Wow, was Seymour ever great today! OK, there was some fog, but really not as bad as it can get. And the snow was late Jan or early Feb snow, when the stuff is finally coming down and not getting melted. It was busy, but the new Mystery chair is keeping up nicely.
I think if we get another foot or two of snow it'll be better than it was at any time last season.
I'd like to now offer my apology to Ullr for all the bitching and whining over the last month.
Cypress had the same fog issue today but only on the top 1/4 of the mountain. The snow conditions on the locals is pretty damn nice thanks to a constant -3 C. Ducking ropes turned out to be some of the best pow runs I have ever had on a local hill.....
You should be able to slap one of those bounceboards together pretty easy.
Much cheaper than those outrageous prices that are on bounceboard.com for some foam & straps.
Try value Village or the leisure center & see if you can get one of those flat foam pieces.
Substitute Carbon & fiberglass with some foam & maybe chop down some thin cutting board for stringers to stiffen it up.
I got some ideas, don't know why I haven't made somethin' like this already for my tramp.
Cause about 3 min on a normal board is about as long as you can go for before you have a heart attack. Regular snowboards on tramps kinda sucks, they fight each other & you have to work so hard for very little.
You can't tell me you don't want to try that air bag, & I know for a fact, coming & playing on it will only be beneficial for everything else your tryin' to accomplish this year? Correct? The chances of hurting yourself are next to nil.
I tried a double & my face was the first thing that hit the bag, & I'm still pretty:yahoo:
Last time I was on it, they were only checking to see that you had @ least bought 1 ticket for $2 & signed the waiver. After that they didn't care how many times you went off it. They were laughin' about it.
I'll lend ya $2 bucksccasion14:
You can't say no to that!
You never think it'll actually happen but yesterday at Hemlock my buddy went head first down a tree well.
We rode most of the day lapping, getting some awesome pow turns, face shots, the works. So good, and deeeeep
Bout 3 we decided to head up and try get a couple photos so we were sticking a bit closer than normal. So fucking lucky.
Was waiting a little below my friends line watching him drop, he got a couple big turns in... going FAST. Anyway, he lost it flying forward, head first and whoooomp, straight into a tree well under a small Douglas Fir. All I could see was the bottom of his board. Text book shit.
I was probably 10ft from him, and it took a sickeningly long time to unstrap and climb through thigh deep snow to get to him. He was totally inverted and lucky not struggling, but he could not do a thing. I dug on the lower/shallowest side and it took quite a while to reach one of his arms. When I got there I could figure out where his head was and he was using his free arm to point to where his mouth was... kinda frantically because he'd just run out of air.
Once I got an air channel to him, I got my girlfriend who'd just got down to us to help excavate the remaining snow without collapsing it more and finally got him free.
Anyway, we got him out and he's fine but be we are all a little rattled. I guess we will process what we learned and try be more careful in future. We were LUCKY, and that's about it.
I gotta say, it's probably mainly down to this place that I even know what a tree well is. Read those posts if you haven't already

Hemlock doesn't have main runs really either, Cypress & Seymour you might be able to spot someone just outside a main run.
Hemlock is more wide open, if your buddy goes down, he could be anywhere?
Happened to me too the other day, it wasn't dramatic or anything. I completely forgot till I read this.
I was just going slow, but got weighed down by snow on my board. It happened really slow & I was able to grab on to some branches.
Wasn't really even that deep in it, but my head was lower than my feet because of all the snow on my board.
Still took me a good 5 min of strugglin' to back my ass out of there:thumbsdown:
Gotta be a little more careful until all those little trees are burried
A few years ago I had a insignificant wipe out, & some how I ended up going under the snow or @ least my goggles did.
I don't are who you are, when shit goes dark black, you panic.
You can't tell how much of you is under, until you try & move.
Luckily for me, when I tried to move, I was able to sit up easily.
It felt easy anyway, I probably could have bench pressed a bus @ that moment in time though, because @ that moment in time, I thought I had too.
Glad you were there and knew what was going on. Two of the most important things to consider when in or near the trees; slow down! Most tree well accidents start from a high speed tomahawk into them. Second use good protocols; it's not enough to just ride with a partner. You need to be leapfrogging the run so you are actually watching each other at all times.
If you haven't done so yet, click here and read this online information from th US Forest Service about NARSID ( non avalanche related snow immersion death) and tree wells:
Even more crazy is how spaced out the trees at Hemlock are. You can see in the pic above for an idea. When going fast though, you don't know where you'll end up.
I had two bad tomahawks from flat light and hitting ditches/drops without seeing them, and my gf had a bad incident hitting a cat track at full tilt where we couldn't find one of her skis for a few minutes and had to climb around in waist deep pow.
Shit, it's so fun but my respect levels for deep snow have been bumped right up there!
Coming down pretty good in North Van as well this morning. There were a few flakes falling at Seymour last night....mountain was empty. Here is a park lap from last night.
I seriously don't know why Hemlock isn't busier than it is. It's like... shit I don't even know what it's like... some sort of powder heaven without the drama's of having to hunt out hidden stashes and battle jaded locals for the fresh. So sick
That's the plan, don't know if my car will make it up there though.
I might have to park @ the Samsquanch & hitch:thumbsup:hike up.
So If you see a dude with a Mohawk, pick me up:thumbsup:
Just checked the Hemlock snow report...51cm over night, 80cm in 48 hours, 10cm shy of 3 fuckin' feet.
All right, Thursday is/should be fucking EPIC. Bring your snorkel!!!!
I've had more 4 foot+ deep days @ Hemlock than anywhere else.
Their will be a max of about 80 people there, but probably more like 30.
Endless pow & no line-ups:hope:
