Hi there,

New to this board - thought I'd give it a try.

Wondering if there are any fellow Vancouver, BC - area riders out there that are looking for back-country companions. I'd like to think that I'm a fairly advanced rider, but have limited experience in the back-country. I also have no shortage of friends who love riding in-bounds, but basically none of them are interested in the back-country.

I'm planning on taking the AST-1 course early in the season (the one offered on Seymour), and will be picking up all the gear I need (that is of course if I can find some partners!).

I plan on doing mostly slack-country around Seymour and Baker this year. I have a season's pass at Seymour, and get out to Baker quite a bit. I ride Whistler a bit too. Planning on doing more BC-interior riding as well. I will pretty much be limited to boot-packing and snow-shoeing this year (no split board).

I'm in pretty good shape, and consider my riding style to be "all-rounded" (pow, glades, steeps, booters, park - love it all).


So, are there any rad peeps out there with the right training and gear who want to go play in the snow?

You sound like the classic avalanche victim. Riding skills far out pace your avalanche skills. Good on you for getting into the Canadian Level 1 course. One of the best programs out there. You'll want to have that knowledge for sure.

Baker backcountry is pretty awesome. I think Wrathfuldiety is going to start dipping his big toe into this year. If you really get into it, you'll have a split by the end of the season. Start looking now...

Yeah, I have no intentions on being an idiot back there. I also refuse to ride with idiots. I've always been very calculating when it comes to risk - whatever I'm doing. I ride pretty hard, but I'm not reckless.

Hahaha! Yeah it did come out funny. You're doing the right things. No different than anyone else that gets started in the game and takes it seriously. So many people go out who don't have a clue about what they are exposing themselves too. Most of the time it works out fine, every so often, not so much.

You've got some just fantastic backcountry riding in your area. It's seriously mind blowing. You'll enjoy the hell out of it.

i got a group of guys i go with, some new, some older, more the merrier. maybs we'll be in contact. id also be interested in getting that course done i should've got it a long time ago
