Cell Phone

So this is not so much about snowboarding as it is what cell phone you use when boarding. lol

I will be moving out to Whistler in a weeks time and am looking into cell phone coverage. I'm currently with Telus but my contract is up in December and I'm paying way too much with them right now. I'd ideally like to find something that will have a data plan and unlimited texts with just pay as you go calling without any sort of a contract. No idea if this is possible, but I was just wondering what people in the area use. Any small market companies that have good coverage I could maybe talk into pay as you go?

I've also considered trying to just get unlimited data through a company if possible and using my iPhone with something like Dell voice as my main means of calling and texting but from what I can understand the chances of that are pretty slim.

Any input is appreciated! And once I get out there I'm down to go boarding whenever anyone is in the area. lol

I live in Whistler, I've been with 'Solo' for about a year now. On a $25 month to month plan which gives me unlimited messaging world wide, voice mail, caller ID, 100minutes including long distance and 100mb of data. I'm pretty sure it bounces off the Telus towers and I've never had a problem with coverage. Its been all I've needed on my iphone seeing as I am connected to wifi at work and at home

I was with Rogers while I was out there a few years ago. Reception was dogey. My friends who where Telus\Bell where fine. Check out virgin they have some pretty decent plans.

Where I live I pretty much only have cell coverage in town, so it's pretty useless anytime I head out for activities. Too bad since that makes all the cool outdoors apps I have kind of useless.
Don't forget, your cell/mp3player/etc can interfere with your avy beacon... so have them off when you head out of bounds.

Thanks for the input so far guys. Solo sounds interesting though, I'll look into them for sure. I'm just thinking I'm going to stay away from the major market ones since they are just full of scams.

After working for Telus in Toronto for the last few months and finding out employees can get a plan that has unlimited Canada calling, unlimited texts, 2 GB of data, call display and advanced voicemail all for $15 (because it costs Telus $10 to provide that and they pocket the extra $5). Since I am paying $60 a month for limited local calling, unlimited texts, 500mb of data, call display and basic voicemail it kind of got me pissed off...

So time to look into the smaller market companies. WIND seems interesting, but they don't support iPhones :(

And yes roremc, I've been using this avatar for years on various forums and I still laugh my ass off every time I look at it.
