Conditions in BC (Fernie)? - Snowboarding Forum

How's its goin BCers?

Just wondering how the snow pack is looking out there! I'm looking at getting out west (was hoping for Fernie) during the first week in December -- I have everything set up with RCR but they were pretty skeptical about snow conditions currently, even though we're quickly approaching the Dec 1 opening date!

Just seeing if anyone near there has any insight, I have been reading about people having great riding in that area already! Any help would be hot!

I am in Banff and the snow is Epic for this time of year. I would say we are 1-2 months ahead of where we normally are for this time of year.

Having said that the BC resorts get a later start than we do. I have heard Kicking Horse is primed but no word on Fernie yet? Temps look cold and there is snow in the forecast!

Looking at the webcams it looks like Fernie is still "bare" for Fernie standards. Some good snow but looks like a lot of the off-piste still doesn't have enough snow to cover it, and the off-piste is what Fernie is really all about.

Kicking Horse is also owned by RCR so they could probably transfer your reservations without penalties, and the drive from Calgary is the same to KH as it is to Fernie (+- 15 mins). The snow's looking better at KH and if it turns out shitty you could always go to Lake Louise or Sunshine which seem to be getting dumped on.

I've only been to Nakiska so far this year, and last I checked there wasn't that much open yet. That was last week though...

Seems like Sunshine has the most open so far. KH is targetting Dec 7th I think, I'm going to try to be there for opening day.

Very good idea poutanen. The horse has moved their open day to Dec 1 because they have had loads of snow!

Crap!!! I've got a Finnish club xmas dinner on that day! ARGH!!! I can't skip it either, I'm bringing the meat. Hmmmm, maybe I can go on the Friday and leave Saturday at 2:00. Make it back to Calgary in time for the dinner!

It's puking at Shames right now and Smithers opens tomorrow!...

I am going to Louise on Sunday I'll Let you know how conditions are. Louise is my second home, If you come to louise shoot me a PM and I can meet up with you and show you around. I wont guarantee I will see you the whole day but maybe a few runs anyway!!

Just changed my mind and I'm heading to Louise tomorrow instead of Nakiska, so I can give a bit of feedback too.
