RMR opening day

RMR Snow Report
24hr 28cm
48hr 39cm
7day 68cm
Base Depth 140cm
Weather
Socked in, warm and wet with rain on lower / heavy snowfall on upper.
Snow Conditions
Heavy deep pow. Shin-knee deep in most places with some thigh deep and a few stomach deeps. Good coverage and base for opening. Only upper mountain open (Stoke & Ripper) inc. North Bowl & Greely Bowl (sub-peak & upper north closed due to storm).

The first people arrived in line with tents at 3:30pm. We showed up at 6:30am and were a hundred feet back and then the line grew quickly. A poncho, $1 stool, and food made the wait a piece of cake. Visibility was almost zero for the first couple hundred feet till treeline due to the storm, but then fine afterwards. We did a few runs on the stoke before the line built then at the Ripper there was only 1 chair infront of us loading. Snorkel Glades were incredibly deep (minimum knee deep but up to stomach deep in many place). Most of the Ripper was really damp mashed potatoes type snow. Went back to Stoke for North Bowl for North Bowl and hit Parachute first track then watched some huckers for a copule minutes. 6 runs deep by now, we stopped for lunch then did one last lap through South Bowl glades – by far the driest snow of the day (and about knee-thigh deep). Rode down Devils Club (nice creamy smooth dense hero snow) then hoped onto the Last Spike near the top of the old ski hill since it had become super sticky rain snow and getting pretty thin. Made it to mid though!
It’s hard to take photos on opening day - storming hard and not concerned at all with taking pics just enjoying the time out. They should however give you and idea of the conditions. Pics here: Dec.1 – RMR Opening Day

Looks like Fernie was all rain and has a very poor snow report. Kicking Horse was probably good (but had much less snow than Revy). Whitewater had a very impressive report (66cm-48hr, 170cm base).
Forecast looks good too: http://wxmaps.org/pix/ezca.wcan.html

I was there after I got to Kicking Horse and didn't want to put up with the rain.

Was pretty disappointed that there was only 15% off a full price ticket given how much of the hill was closed.

Great conditions on on the front side. Very heavy at the bottom of the stoke but up top was nice. Didn't get over the back as I heard it was wet and heavy. Just like my last girlfriend! ;)

Yeah it was soppin wet! But not anymore... :D
Dec.3 – …and it gets even better: Deep Dry Pow!
Dumpage to continue all week. Had 2nd-3rd cabin, rode straight onto the chair each lap.
