Thought I'd make a thread for sharing the local conditions similar to the Vancouver thread here.

Dec. 14th - Castle Opening Day. This is my first time here and the hill has a very laid back vibe to it. Conditions were decent for early season. Huckleberry and sundance had mixtures on powder, chuky powder, crust thru out the run. Lots of little branches sticking out.

Red chair didn't open until afternoon and it was very rocky in places. had to stick around trees for best conditions.

The bad: chairs are sloooooow, and they sway a lot.
The Ugly: T-bar pub run out of draft and pizza before noon. My food never came

Dec.15th - Fernie

Great conditions - untouched powder can be found in currie/cedar/siberia. Epic conditions up on top of mountain. untouched pow and sparse trees.

Good mixture of soft snow and groomers across the board. Many tree areas in lower elevations are closed off to conserve base. Tons of branches are sticking out. The last sections of groomers before base is riddled with tiny rocks. Slightly annoying.

I think it definitely has the best conditions compared to (LL, SSV, KH, Castle) can't comment on Revy but I'll be there next weekend.

Lol, yeah I don't have much bike experience on trails... Was on a YZ250 once that was race prepped. Took it around a track for a few laps and felt like my forearms were going to explode!

Would love a late 90's Yamaha Big Bear or Wolverine or whatever their utility 350 4x4 is. That late 80's Honda is still a workhorse at my dads pit. It's been in the family since new and I'm the only one that gets the thing out of 3rd gear... Every time I visit my dad I take the thing in the pit and rape it to clean it out. :yahoo: Good fun!

We've got sweet trails around here though, no? I'd love to get a road bike again but the season is too short. I wonder what it'd be like owning an adventure bike here? Either something like a Yamaha WR250R or a KTM 690 Enduro or ???

Quads are rad and definitely a good all-year thing. I find the problem with quads in the snow is the ground clearance as much as anything. I have a Kawi Brute 750 with some decent sized tires on it and it's pretty much the best in the snow out of everyone I ride with and it still gets high-centred and stuck it's deep enough. I don't even go out in winter or anything though, just the trails I ride can have 2-3 ft on them into the summer. Wanna build some jumps up there... *rubs hands together scheming*

Great day at louise. Still icy in lower front but rest of the trails were in good shape. Paradise was great and same with platter runs. Top of the world was decent. Don't go to latch trees... It's terrible in there now.

Crazy crash in the highway just outside Calgary, had to detour to Sarcee trail.

I was headed for Nakiska (friends stayed there overnight) but turned back when I heard about the accident. First time I've turned around this year!!! :dizzy:

They said it was pretty crap there.

Light fluff falling in town now, hope the forecast stays true, next weekend could be fantastic!

edit: I've been told to use up more vacation days so if it's good Friday I'll likely head for Louise.

We were right behind the the accident - it was about 7.55 and the roads were terrible - covered in ice. We were turned around by the police then we re-routed on highway 1A. Sunshine was good for the most part until the clouds came in after lunch, the top of goats eye was a complete whiteout. The snow was a bit sticky but I don't mind that. It's a shame the visibility was bad because the snow was nice up on Standish but the little rollers kept on appearing out of nowhere.

Looks like there's more snow coming this weekend, we could be in for a good spring (fingers crossed).

I hope this weekend is good. I was supposed to go to Sunshine yesterday but woke up puking sick at 3am and spent the day on the couch. Even had the board all waxed and sharpened and ready to go. Forecast looks like it could be great though!

I was in the dive yesterday and it was fantastic. I hit cream which is way over on the other side. Hard to get to but the snow was above the knee. For any of you guys that have not hit the dive you need to get there. The best riding in Alberta IMO.
Sadly Wild West was shut. Snow safety is reporting that it may open once more but then that will be it for the season.

Cold as shit today in Banff. Still a bit of life left in the winter yet.
