Paging Neni and Tatanka!

Hi Neni and Tatanka (and anyone else who can help me),

I am looking at the train schedule for Munich to St. Anton on 20/2, St. Anton to Davos on 24/2, and Davos to Munich on 27/2. The trip from St. Anton to Davos includes a warning (see attached picture). How serious is that warning (and what exactly does it say?! How much do I need to worry about a train being full? Should I be aiming for reservations well in advance or can one usually wait until the last minute to see how the timing sorts out. For example I am not sure how long it will take to get through the Munich airport so I don't want to buy that leg in advance and then not be able to to make the train. (For that leg we have a 9:40 arrival and the train I hope to catch is 11:00.) If you miss a train can you use the ticket on the next train?

Thanks for your help!

The warning just says that it's a highly frequented travel day and therefore they recommend that your reserve seats.

Without reservation, you maybe won't have a seat and have to stand. No harm. I never reserve seats. Somtimes the trains are full, so one stacks ones bags somewhere in the aisle and sits there.

BTW: trains to and from Zurich are always very stuffed in the mornings n evenings. Half the coutry commutes to work there.

Don't know how German railways handle it, if your ticket is only valid for a specific train, but in Switzerland the ticket is valid for whichever train you fetch. If you miss the one where seats were reserved, you hop on the next one: there just will be no reserved seat in that one anymore.

Not sure about outside of Switzerland, but once you are in Switzerland you can ride any train (S-Bahn, IC, RE, etc.) with any valid train ticket. Buy an open ticket and then a separate reservation. iirc, DB (from Germany) reservations are only like 7. If you miss that train, you'll only be out that amount.

I've never reserved a seat on a swiss train, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. Try the SBB (swiss rail) app. The Feb 21st weekend will be busy because a lot of schools in the area will be returning from Ski week.

My app doesn't mention busy travel day on the St. Anton- Sargans leg because it is an international connection. It does say that Sargans to Chur will be medium capacity. After second thought, I'd reserve from St. Anton to Sargans. The rest of the trip you'll be fine (Sargans to Davos).

Lol. I AM in bed. But there's no snow anyway, so no need for an early wakeup call

Shhh... Don't tell Kenai. I'm sure he'll enjoy the beautiful spring temps in the Alps.

Sunday will dump, and I can't pull sick days for powder. I'm debating on going out in the storm.

Haha! Thanks you two. I did not expect a response until your tomorrow morning!

We are going to hire a guide for a couple days in St. Anton. He looks sufficiently insane that I'm sure we will have an amazing time! Irian Van Helfteren
