That. Buy the helmet that you want to wear, because if you're not wearing it, it's not protecting anything.

Also take your goggles and try those on with helmets. If the helmet that fits you best and is the most comfortable doesn't fit well with your goggles, then try on some other goggles and buy those too.
Wish I'd remembered to do that.

I got lucky. My Oakley airbrakes fit the new lid with no gaper gap or anything, but they do look just a little odd to me /w this helmet compared to how they matched up with my old Giro. 🤷‍♂️

I decided on the Giro Jackson mips helmet. $160 retail. 😳
I found one online in L, last years model on sale for $99. (NOT from Backcountry!) 😜
