it's that time of year and our southern Ontario brains are kicking into snow mode with news of snow falls out west.

for those not following Blue on twitter or other forms of media i thought i'd share this.

They've finally installed the towers for the new orchard section at the resort. Cables should be hung soon and chair installs to follow before the flakes start flying.

Optimistic for another great season!
hope to see you up there!

Same as every run at Blue. Flat then a drop, then a step, then a drop, then a flat to the lift... :D
Ah the beautiful fall colors of Ontario. Reminds me of the days when I used to drive from Hamilton up to Waterloo University on the backroads. Thanks for the nice pic.

When I was riding last year they felt like typical blue trails for blue Mtn, not as steep as the north runs, with the profile described above. Doesn't matter, another 6 traiks will help a little with crowding.

As long as you stay away from Happy Valley it's a fun place to board! Lol

Teen pregnancy capital of Ontario!!! I lived in Aurora for the first 15 years of my life, then spent time in Schomberg, Toronto, Maple, Watertown, Hamilton, and finally Grimsby.

Then I came to my senses and moved to the Rockies! :yahoo:
/\ Dundas teen preggers capital for sure! i lived in Greensville above dundas. Supra, what school? Parkside? Highland?

re: Blue and 45second runs - i guess you work with what you've got right? (and save your pennies for BC trips)

I've had some great days at Blue over the years. If anything, in my opinion, I think riding in southern Ontario makes you a better rider in the end as you're forced to use the entire hill and search/hunt for features to keep things interesting.

It's all relative. As far as I'm concerned lift speed and lack of lift lines makes more of a difference than mountain vert. When I go to fernie it's not like I'm doing 3500 vert laps, I head over to one of the high speed chairs and do 1000 ft vert laps.

I remember at Blue being able to do 40 runs in a day. We'd blast down Memory Lane, sticking to skiers left and hugging the edge of the woods the whole time. It was awesome popping off the lip at the top of the steep section, landing and then getting into a hard carve. At the bottom we'd fly right back onto the lift again, ride it for 3 minutes and do it over and over and over again.

Last time I ever boarded at Blue... 5 runs in 36 minutes, blasting under the Silver Bullet the whole time! Blue Trip - Friday Morning by apoutanen at Garmin Connect - Details

Im super excited, every time around this year I spend all day at school watching snowboard videos.

Sorta sad that they are adding the lift to orchards. I've had a good amount of fun in there without the crowds. On the better years people had built some nice jumps in there; though riding the orchards was a real gamble for your board. My friend got a nice gash right through his base last year.

If you look at the blue mountain trail map, you will notice on the very edge of the north side theres an area where it looks like the trees have been somewhat cleared, but i've never ridden it before. Gonna try it this year, has anyone done it before? Was it worth riding?
hows the snow conditions there? Heading there the weekend of jan 17-19th hoping for some great weather

They had by far their best opening in years.

Lots of snow up there right now, seems like more to come. There have been a couple of cold snaps combined with quite a bit of dry snow, making for very nice conditions.

Half pipe wasn't done as of Sunday jan 5th.

Its been unseasonably warm this week, so a third of their trails are closed today. But, by this weekend the temps should drop, so you'll be fine... They make snow over night (all they need is -2 temps) so just go early in the mornings for the best experience, by the afternoon all the powder gets pounded into cement.
Im gonna try to make it up this weekend. Supposed to snow Wed-Sat
