I'm attending a convention in Seattle Nov. 20-23 which is a perfect opportunity to check riding Mt. Baker off of my bucket list. I am totally unfamiliar w/ the area and looking for a little advice. I'll be heading up Friday evening and staying through the weekend.

1. Any recommendations on where to stay for 3 nights that won't empty my wallet?

2. Do you have any favorite areas of the mountain to ride and stay out of the fray?

3. Any nightlife or eatery locations I should be aware of? :eek:ccasion14:
4. I'm a believer in the buddy system, and since I'm solo anyone want to meet up? I'm an advanced rider and can easily hold my own.

Thanks in advance!

wrath is your man in Bellingham. Which is where you want to stay if you are going to Baker. I believe the first exit for Bellingham off of I5 is where the hotel was we stayed at for our Baker days. It's just east of the highway on the left. Pretty bare bones, but it was clean enough and cheap. Plus there is a indoor hot tub. It works.

Howdy,
I think I have that weekend off work :yahoo:

But its early season and no guarantees the hill will even be open...but there will probably be snow...u got bc gear?

I don't do motels but I probably stay here...
Lions Inn Motel in Beautiful Bellingham minutes from waterfront and wwu

Bham is the city of subdued excrement...so it rolls up pretty early, some good micro brew pubs

The hill...it depends on the snow conditions...some areas are great if its going off and if conditions are bad they are a death trap.

So pm and we"ll figure something out.

You weren't lying killclimbz! Wrath, thank you for this info. The accommodations are exactly what I'm looking for. I know it's going to be a bit of a crap shoot, but it's a risk I'm willing to take. Also keeping a close eye on Stevens and Crystal.

This is my first post since joining the forum and I was hoping to not get flamed by probing for info right away. Thanks for that! I'm currently living in St. Louis. Great for baseball, but not optimum for my riding. Been riding since '87 (Yup, I probably have some day glow gear in a box somewhere). I bounced around Colorado for 3 years going to "school" and back to STL. I'm lucky to have a close friend w/ a house in Dillon. I generally spent 2-3 weeks a season in Summit County, but the past few seasons have been for sh!t. Looking to expand my horizons and it looks like you guys have had some consistently heavy totals for the past few.

So, if you see me pop up from time to time you know a little about me.

Wrath, I hope to be buying you a few beers in late November.

For your 1st post your dead on. It wasn't a help me win thread, what board should I get, I have a promo board for $400 F/S
Respect out of the gate no need for flaming

It's great you can possibly get a mountain ride off your bucket list. I hope things work in your favor wise. Plus a personal guide and some good breweries to boot is just a win

Washington is a pretty great place. When it's on there it is ridiculous.

Bummer last season in Colorado was shot for you. By the first week in March it was pretty good and just about everyday was a powder day. The snows didn't really start until around mid Feb though. Believe or not we actually came close to the amount of snow that had fallen in the record 10-11 season. It was an amazing 3 month season.

Hard to say if the season will be open by then. If our collectively crossed fingers help, Baker would be among the 1st if not the 1st to open for business. Crystal opening up only the upper gondola-accessed glacier would be another possibility.

If I were you I'd hold off on booking a place. If you do head to Baker, you could also consider reserving a place closer such as in Glacier or Maple Falls. Just know that there is basically no cell reception out there at the base of the mountain, and not much in the way of restaurants/bars. When we stay there it's generally a cabin or vacation rental with a group, although there are a couple motels/inns I believe.

My only commitment is to the time off of work and 3 days to kill before heading home. Wrath has been a wealth of information via PM. I'm going to play it real loose until about 2-3 weeks before arrival.

All be praised to Ullr for heavy snow before then.

Dear, sweet, 8lb 9oz baby Jeezus! Baker will be open in time for my arrival this weekend. Wrath, who has been more than helpful, has prior commitments so I'm solo. I'm heading out of BHam super early Saturday if anyone wants to meet up and combine efforts.

Rain or shine in the forecast? I know the PNW is the only place where I see the forecast say "partly sunny" but I've had plenty of glorious sun filled days there.

46 and sunny actually sounds fun. 46 and rain sounds wet...

I had a blast in Washington! Rode Baker on Saturday, unfortunately the coverage was thin by the time I got there. I bet opening day was amazing but everything was tracked out by the weekend. Bellingham is a beautiful town. I opted out of riding on Sunday and wandered around checking out the port and town. I will be back again before the season is out.
