The Deep Fake might be interesting…

(and I like black)
My info says it's a callback to the Berzerker before the most current redesign. So similar feel but a deeper sidecut from what I was told.

Complicated sidecuts are becoming more common. It’d be great if there was a standard for comparison (perhaps showing a plot against the average side cut radius?). Or maybe I’m just too much of a Nerd.

The deep fake has a decent description, but no indication of what the radii actually are.

“Linear Quadratic Sidecut - A directional sidecut utilizing Quadratic curvature from the tip to the rear insert pack, then progressing into a linear section into the tail. This creates smooth catch-free turn initiation and powerful support through the turn exit without losing grip.”

I’m picturing something like this:

Slope Plot Rectangle Font Parallel

They also say “The tapered linear quadratic sidecut is designed for smooth turn initiation and powerful grip through turns without washing out.”

Which seems to be the opposite of the current Berserker with the tighter radii in the tip & tail.

Right. It's hard to compare as there is often a lot of fancy shit going on shape wise that, alone, tells you really very little. As the composite layup and camber positioning can have an impact on where you put pressure into the sidecut throughout a turn.

A tighter sidecut can get you into a turn quicker, then if it degresses into the center it will stay stable at slower speeds and allow for higher board angles with less turn, effectively the feeling of the new Zerker.

Any leads on next years K2 stuff? Specifically what color the Lien AT will be?
Think they’re getting discontinued.

The 2023/2023 K2 bindings line is missing some familiar faces. Classic bindings like the Lien AT and Line Up will sing their swan song as K2 introduces the Path, Albany, and Network for women and the Program, Edition, and Bond unisex bindings. The majority of the new bindings are freestyle-inclined but the Path and the Program are ultra stiff and ready for freeride objectives.

Will be looking forward to sniping some close out sales!

TriPod frames are no more for 23/24. That is correct. Get them while you can.

I heard Burton is discontinuing the Malavitas :(
Unless they moved them into a more exclusive line that isn't shown to the masses of stores, I can confirm this. Burton is treading water in my opinion. It feels like they have put ALL their effort into Step-On and nothing else. They just feel super stale. Just axed one of their most successful bindings for.... why? Their whole line needs a refresh. Like everything. Anon and most of AK are solid, maybe some gloves, a few random other softgood pieces, that's about it. Their entire hardgoods line is starting to feel dated.

Even Family Tree at this point feels like throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks.
It’s really cool that you can get some stuff that’s outside the box and not diluted down to the lowest common denominator/mass populace… but it is a bit like doing some R&D for them.

I still think my Dump Truck is a really solid back/slack country board, but man does it suck on groomers and chop.

I do wish some of the ft boards stayed around for more than a season, the marketing material always looks good but by the time actual reviews materialize the good ones are gone. Always a shot in the dark with ft. I still wonder if I missed out on the speed date

Wonder why? Honestly I like them on my Lien AT. It works.

Is it because lack of support from buyers to buy them because septicism?

And to be honest, for the price they are, I prefer them over my 2020 Cartel.

Totally. Like I was a big fan of the OG Trick Pony. Then they fukced it by changing the tips, making it directional twin, and throwing an extra shitty version of PurePop on it. When the Name Dropper was flat it was one of the best jib decks available. Fukced it up by putting purepop on it. They consistently keep making the twin/purepop Custom a limited release. Could be a smash hit for their line, or, you know, make a reg custom in Pure Pop. They put a fukc ton of marketing effort behind the Flight Attendant, one of the worst boards to make it out of Family Tree, when that same level of effort SHOULD have been behind maybe the Deep Thinker? Cartographer? Hometown Hero? All better than the FA. Shit, FT should have pushed boards like the Stun Gun, Cheetah, Sensei, Con Artist, Speed Freak, SkipJack, Juice Wagon, Cloud Splitter, Branch Manager, Landlord, Tough Cat.... am I making my point? Angry said it best on the Live Chat yesterday, Burton sells boards to people that buy snowboards. Like they market to the group of snowboarders who buy snowboards, like that's their snowboard identity, that they bought a their own snowboard. And yeah if you bought a Burton and like it that's fine, I have over the years and been a fan. Loved the FlyingV Barraduda, had a Free Thinker, solid, had an OG Trick Pony, super fun, Sensei was sick... Bindings are, fine. That's it for me, their just fine. Same for the boots. They have some good stuff, some not so good stuff, some stuff that is 5 years behind. Oh but they have StepOn Split now!!! Yay!!! Cause the average person that is riding StepOn is definitely who I want in the backcountry. Talked about it recently and it was kind of nice when to split, you had to cut your own board and add your own inserts. Anyone putting that level of effort into BC gear, would also likely put that level of effort into being educated and riding smart.

They forgot how to market them. The new shit does look very well dialed. Super clean. I wish they would have just dropped the Lineups, and moved the Lien AT down the line to like the $250 pricepoint and compete directly with Strata. But oh well. Shit happens. Plenty of good product has been axed over the years for bad positioning or lack of understanding.
