Hi all,
I purchased my first snowboard setup recently and was hoping to get some opinions on whether my binding overhang is acceptable or if I should return my bindings.

For more info, my boots are 10.5 Salomon Launch SJ BOAs, bindings are Large Union Forces and the board is the K2 Broadcast which is a directional board so my stance is set back a bit. My stance angle is set at +12/-9. I've ridden 6 times so I'd say I'm half-decent but no where near carving at the moment and I only snowboard at resorts on groomers.

At the shop, I checked with the employee to see if Mediums would fit but with the heelcup maxed out, it looks like there was way too much overhang on the toe side. I'm not sure if the toe ramp can be pushed out far enough to where my boot would be centered so I ended up purchasing the large and had the employee set up my bindings. The boots appeared to be centered as seen in the photos in the link below. The toe ramp is pushed all the way in as well.

I've tried tilting the board to the toe and heel side to see how far it can go before it touches the ground and it appears to be ok from what I see. But since its on a flat surface and not on the hill, I'm not sure if its ok so I've included some pictures.

My only concern is whether or not I will experience any toe/heel drag from the bindings on steeper slopes or on powdery conditions or as I get more experienced with carving. Really hoping to get some input on if I'll be able to get away with the binding overhang. Thanks!

Take a picture from underneath the board to see how much actual overhang there is. Also realize that it will be a long time before you are leaning over that much, unless you are a 100-day-a-season person.
Hey thank you for the quick reply. I've attached photos of the bottom, what do you think?

Looks rideable to me. Because the bindings lift your boots up a bit, you would really need to be at a very extreme angle to run into issues while carving.

If you dislike the set-up, you should be returning your board and getting a wide board. Switching out bindings won't help. It's your boot size and stance angles ontop of the width of the snowboard that matters with overhang past the board's edge.

For boots sitting in the binding, as long as there is less than 1.5 inches of the boot sticking out on either side of the footbed, the binding should ride perfectly fine (imo). More than that, probably need bigger bindings. A 10.5 boot in a large Union binding sounds right (it is actually on the smallest size to fit large bindings on their official size chart so should definitely be able to fit your boot into that binding with room to spare. You can prob move the heelcup and footbed some more if you wanted).

Also, if you look at the toe area of the boot, the part that curves upwards does not need to be sitting on the footbed - it won't be pressuring the footbed even if there is footbed underneath it, so that part doesn't matter too much. Important to make sure your boots and the midline of your foot is centered on your board.

Hey thank you for the reply! So the binding hanging a bit over the snowboard edges is fine?
