Board Buying: decisions decisions...

2228 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  BoardChitless
Finally getting a new board after several years (six to be exact) and need help on making a proper choice. I'm 6'4 276lbs and wear 32s size 14. My retired board was a Nidecker Axis 163.

Conflicted by the following boards:

GNU Billy Goat 165
Lamar Hunter, Cranium, and Viper 163 wide
or should I go with the Rossignol Accelerator 165 wide.

I am a park and bombing-run rider who loves going fast and taking nice wide carves.

I'm not sure that Billy Goat will be wide enough for you.

My suggestion for your kind of riding is a Lib Tech Skunk Ape. Designed for big dudes and tears up the mountain.

Other options to check out are the Never Summer Heritage X, Arbor Roundhouse, and Gnu Rider's Choice wide
How much park compared to how much high speed groomer rocking?

On an average day, 50-50. some days just all day in the park.

I'm not as much into the GNU, but my Nidecker was the same width and I never had issues with toe-drag. Usually I measure at the inserts since I don't ride at the waist. My stance angles are 17/ -15
I just upgraded my 15 year-old Burton Floater 168 to a Lib Tech SkunkApe 180.

I'm 6'8" 285 lbs with a size 17 boot. The Skunk Ape is perfect for us big dudes. I LOVE it! 180 might be a bit long for your riding style though...
I'm checking out the lib tech boards and I'm liking what I see, but I'm weighing out prices because 4-5 hundred is a little steep for me. That 180cm goes to my eye brows and would make a great power board.

You can get this year's Libs for 30-35% off right now... Thinking about getting the Jamie Lynn as I type.

In the same boat, I am looking to upgrade from a 15yo Ride Timeless... We both need/needed new boards!!!
