Anyone here knows how conditions look like in the Chugach Mountains?

I'm monitoring the weather on an app on Cordova (see level) and don't like what I've seen... seems pretty warm? Shouldn't it be way colder this time of year? Does it snow at the mountains? At which elevation is it snowing? Is it a good/bad/normal year/pattern?

I'm going on a Heli trip end of March; last year we had bad snow conditions... thus bit concerned abt the warm temps now... would love to know how good or bad it really is... would be nice to be allowed to be stoked that it won't be a bad snow trip again.

Well its been another hard year thats for sure, but we haven't went without snow thats for sure. the 1st 2 months of the season everyone was complaining we had no snow, they were wrong you just had to get a little deeper to find it but when you did it was amazing. last weekend we had to hike so far we were actually sharing lines with the heli guides. yesterday i took skis out around town just to make it interesting. you really have to get back there to find it. today is saying its going to 36-40 so thats not going to help anything out. maybe march will bring us a massive dump and heal some of the problems but I'm not sure how stable everything will be the rest of the year. hope ya find something good if you come up.

Conditions are pretty much shit this year. Not only it has been unseasonably warm, we've had very little snow. Alyeska had GRASS growing in front of the day lodge until a couple weeks ago.
Here is a link that shows snowpack throughout the state.

Thanks for the link! Gonna stare at it till March  Pity that one can't see at which elevation the measureing station is, but this gives a good idea...

Hi Larry
Awsome picks - stoke level is already increasing :).
Well, woth the heli we'd be bit avay from the coast, area around Pontoon.
I don't mind if there's no hip deep at sea level (although this woulde be nice of course ;)) but if there's only crusts n hardpack also at the top of the mtns cos it haven't snowed a month or if there's no base at all and you'd need a rock board, that would be frustrating :eyetwitch2:.

So I get from you that there is a decent base; the farther away from the coast the better.

Love the forecast of the lodge in AK today. Finally cold n snow :jumping1:
Pfeww... hope that pattern lasts...
the last x times I checked this winter they had pretty warm n rain. There'll be snow on the peaks, but it's nicer when there's also snow down at the lodge (=opportunity to split at down days).

CO looks good as well... only days to go... Getting really antsy now :dance1::woohoo::bug:

When are you guys going to be up here? New snow is good but the last system may have messed us up bad for stability. Hatchers slid out in more then a few spots yesterday. We may stick to the Valdez area for a bit.
