Looking for Ski and Boarding Run Tracker Apps. What works best for you? And what's new?
The one that I used to use for a few seasons "ALLSNOW" seems down and gone and I use Trace Snow occasionally.
Which apps are to be skipped and avoided? Free is best if that is an option. Prefer runs overlayed on a real google map of the Ski area so can find missed areas and gladed tree runs access points. Thanks.
I use garmin Connect and Strava. Same nickname there as here. Strava is ok for snowboarding, great for hiking and mtb. Free app, but you can purchese a full app version. I use the free one, it’s more than enough for me as I also use Garmin Connect for more in depth stats.
Slopes is free with a paid subscription, SkiTracks was I think $2 or something.
Broadly I prefer Slopes, it has a journaling feature that I use to quickly log some thoughts on the day, what I rode, what conditions were like, etc.
Ski Tracks has better visualization and data logging functionality compared to the free version of Slopes. You can see your elevation or your speed relative to time, so you can figure out when exactly you hit high speeds or whatever. Slopes free version will only show you your "bests" of the day.
However Slopes is a lot smarter and functional in other ways. Ski Tracks is kind of stupid when it comes to automatic run counting or vertical counting. One of the things I noticed is that Ski Tracks would always give me slightly higher vertical count and mileage travelled... I realized that SkiTracks was counting the walk to the car and back as a "run". Slopes would automatically detect that I was walking and not count that time. Also, run editing on Slopes is easier... I have accidentally logged "runs" when I leave the trackers on for the drive home. I can easily cut this time out on Slopes, I've never figured out how to do it on SkiTracks.
I will probably just pay for Slopes Premium next year.
Ski Tracks it is, last time I remembered, it has some glitches. Well, I can't say anything more to it right now without testing it again. Thanks for the great advice!
Yeah ski tracks is pretty good. Basic stats that you can log and save. Just remember to turn it off during breaks. It tends to wear down your phone battery. It took me a couple trips to realize I wasn’t hitting 65mph. That was the drive home!
I use Ski Tracks, too. I don’t have big demands, but it does do that Google Map overlay you want, and more. It was free when I got it; I notice there’s now a Lite version, too.
I use my Suunto 9 Baro with its native app. I sometimes forget to turn it on, since I bought it mainly for running, touring etc. But it's fun to have the stats of your last run on the lift.
