Last week, Mar. 20-24th, I was able to make a trip north to Boyne Highlands in MI. and arrive in time for some AWESOME conditions! I took some vacation days at the last minute hoping the weather channels forecast for a late season storm of 6-8 inches over Mon.-Tues. would pan out and lucked into an 18+ inch dump!!! :yahoo: I've been there for some 5-6 inch dumps over the course of a day or two and thought that was pretty great! (...and it was!) But this trip, this snow, was something else entirely!!!! :wavetowel2: :10:

There were stashes where I was riding in shit THIGH deep! Absolutely the best snow I've ridden in the 2-1/2 seasons I've been riding!! Even with the sun out, It was cold as hell all week, day & night. Snow stayed light and fluffy. Totally mixed high clouds & "Bluebird Days" and yet the snow didn't warm up or crust over until the last day on Sun. Even the packed down & regroomed stuff Fri. & Sat. was REALLY good shredding snow! And absolutely the very best part of it all,..

...The place was practically Deserted all week!!! Even Sat. & Sun.!!!! Only a few dozen people on the whole hill all week. I got first tracks on a lot of the trails 2-3 days in a row!! Most mornings I would have entire trails almost all to myself for an hour or two!!!! :laugh::yahoo::laugh:

It was amazing!! I almost felt like I was learning how to ride all over again, but thought I got the hang of it pretty fast! 1st day on my first 1/2 mile run, I get down to the lift & couldn't believe how my back leg & thigh were burning something fierce!! :D

After only three hours of riding all that knee deep stuff & I felt like I usually do after riding HARD all day 1st to last chair!! It felt GREAT!!! Man!!! I just GOTTA get me some more of THAT!!!!! :thumbsup:

[Last Minute Edit}
Oh yeah,.. and I logged my fasted speed this trip! 48.9mph!!! According to Alpine Replay & Ski Trax! Not bad considering I couldn't crack 30 mph all last season!! ;)

My best day was out at bridger this season, a total of 52 inches in ONE WEEK. I got there near the end, but man, that was some AMAZING pow.

And you know what chomps1211, even after 27 years and countless untouched turns of knee/thigh deep PNW powder (BAKER and Stevens), I get as fucking stoked to make powder turns today, as I did years ago. I tell people that as soon as I hear clickclickclick from my bindings, I go from 46 to 15 years real quick, and that goes for the 6-8 guys that I've been riding with for over 20 years and one guy all of the 27 years.

It never gets old, if you're in it for the passion, and not the fashion
