Gnu riders choice

Hey guys,

I've been doing alot of research on new boards and came to the conclusion that the gnu Rc fits what I'm looking for. I mostly cruise groomers, but am looking into getting into a bit of park riding/freestyle.

I'm a fairly big guy, approx 6'2 230 , wearing a size 12 lashed 32 boot. I currently ride an old burton baron 162" wide , which I don't believe is great for buttering/park riding.

My question for you guys is, would I get away with a 158"w on the gnu, should I step up to the 161.5r .. Or play it completely safe with the 162w? ( these questions are mainly based on ideal length and waist width for my size ). Looking for a more playful yet stable board for all mountain.

Also, going by gnus website , the 158w has the most flex of the 3 at a rating of 6, 7 for the 161.5 .. And 6.5 for the 162w. Is this correct? I've always assumed you'd have less flex with a longer wider board. Judging by the specs , the 161.5 is stiffer then the wider 162.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Ps: most of my riding will be east coast, Nova Scotia, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland. We tend to get some icey runs!

Cheers

Almost same size/specs here and purchased a RC this past off season for exactly the same reasons. I went with a 158W from a 162W GNU CC.

Length difference was barely noticeable between the 2 boards. You should be fine with a 158W.

For the record I'm 6'1 - 200 - size 13 boot.
Thanks for your reply derp,

I was really hoping to get away with the 158w, seeing it has the most flex and it would be what I believe to be an easier board to throw around. My only concern would be a bit of wash out at higher speeds .. But I guess at our sizes, we have to make some compromises to fit a certain riding style.
I think @ 230lbs, your gonna have your way with any one of those sizes.:yahoo:
They're probably to close flex wise, to tell the difference? Meaning they're gonna flex quite a bit.

I have a Gnu Carbon Credit 156 & @ 160 or so pounds, I wish it was a bit bigger.

TT

Agreed.

Thanks for chiming in guys!

I wasn't quite sure if there would be much flex difference between the two, so I figured id see what you guys think.

I was talking to a mervin rep earlier today, and he believes that I should grab a 161.5 reg. He said my size 12 boot shouldn't be a problem, other then the fact I may have to angle my bindings a bit .. Which shouldn't compromise my riding ability.

I'm glad to know there are some people out there willing to help a fella out when needed. Going to pull the trigger on one tonight I think. I found some stellar deals on 2013 RC's, but alot of brands won't allow shipping to canada , so I just may have to go with the 2014. I almost preferred the graphics of last years?

Cheers guys!!
I'm ~210 lbs and currently debating between last year's RC or TRS.

RC seems perfect for freestyle, but the TRS seems to be more appropriate for speed/ freeride. Decisions, decisions. :dizzy:

Good to know I can drop a size though. I was considering a 162 for both.

Not really. They are very similar boards and ride almost the same. There is a bit more tech in the RC (sintered base, asym option) but chances are nobody could tell them apart.
Might change slightly for 2013-14, with the new camber profile for the TRS and only asym for the RC.

Almost? Be honest. You definitely preferred last years graphics :). RC graphics for this year are ugly as hell.

I feel like Mervin is trying to kill the RC by using the graphics they are. I feel like it could be a better selling board but no one can get past the graphics. This was the only graphic I really liked:

haha you're on to me derp .. much preferred the graphics of last years RC. If I could find a site with a 2013 161 that would ship to Canada I'd be all over it. However I might be stuck with the ugly ass graphics.

Sucks that I'm dropping 600+ bones on a ride, and not getting the one I really want. Oh well though, hopefully the tech will make up for the graphics. That's what it's all about really.

At least this years not quite as painful to look at as the year where they had a pair of jeans on it. :eek:hmy: lol.
