So I may be going to China in December just for a vacation and I was wandering if anyone knows if they get much snow around then and if they have any okay resorts around beijing or Shanghai?
I live in Australia and have only ever snowboarded here and in New Zealand so my standards are pretty low. I am pretty much only going to try and get some snowboarding time in if any of the resorts have fresh powder fall while I'm there because I'll be going by myself and will only have a limited time there.
Thanks, Jason

Looks like beijing has a couple small hills about an hour away. Probably not worth it IMO. Probably all man made snow.

Ye I found a couple of these that seemed like they'd be mostly man made. Definitely not worth it for me.
Thanks.

I used to live in Shanghai for 2 years and there is no place around Shanghai.

If you will be in Beijing, there are a number of smaller ones within 1 ~ 1.5 hour drive but not worth it. I would suggest ZhangJiaKou which is 3.5 hours away. 2 large ones there.

The better location is North East of China in Jilin Province. ChangBaiShan resort would be the largest but we had the most fun in Beidahu. Mid size place but interesting piste and off piste trials.

Thanks. Trip ended up getting changed to the USA.
Hopefully I will be able to take a detour to some of the better mountains and finally get some real powder.

Just moved here, im crying into my hands just THINKING about the AMAZING 50cms of natural snow that Yabuli (the only decent looking resort anwhere in China by the looks of it) boast about. Im also crying at the idea of people on the 4-6 lifts most resorts seem to be offering and Im crying at the length of these runs (2km seems to be an EPIC ride out here). Im also quietly sobbing at the sheer number of drag lifts and areas of resorts turned over to events and recreation (tube sliding et al).

But any snows a goal i guess. And beats thailand where the wage is nothing and the chances of snowboarding are pretty much zero so mustnt grumble. Ill give you all the reports youll ever need once i get out there and figure it out.

There is ONE place though that really should be on anyones radar. Not exactly for the snow itself or the line. But because it has that magical mix of awe, snowboarding and majesty:

Yulong (Jade Dragon).

Its high on my hit list and because its a glacier, it means you can do it late season (season runs Nov to June I believe). Youre gonna need your oxygen though since its 5000m up in the sky. Pretty neat place to ride i reckons.

If you wanna do a late season, Changbaishan would be your best bet. The west hill (Xi Po) opens till mid May with untouched pow on daily basis.

Yabuli is only good after Chinese New Year, lots of fresh pow with no wind. Any time before that just icy bitch

Changbaishan Wanda is better than Yabuli before CNY I would say.

Longest run is Beidahu line 14, 3.2 KM blue run

Or, wait till end 2014, there is a new one building by Wanke with Japan's Prince hotel group. They claim to be the largest resort in China which locates in Jilin province
