Helmet Suggestions???

I need a new lid this season. I have a Pro-tec Vigilante and it's a POS. It's never fit right without a beanie (way too warm) and the goggle keeper snap is busted. I've also taken a few good hits and turned it all the way around when I caught a tree limb just right...

In any event, I want something low-pro, light, with really good venting both for cooling and to prevent goggle fogging.

There really isn't much in the way of local shops in my area so I'm going to have to buy online (I know, a bad idea). The idea is to send it back if it doesn't fit right and order another.

I'm thinking Giro... I like the low-pro sculpted look rather than the round bobble-head thing.

Thoughts?

Edit: I'm really liking the look of the Giro Montane. Anyone know how it will fit with a pair of Von Zipper Feenoms?

I wear a Giro Seam and it is light and great for ventilation. Relatively low profile, but I think there are better in this regard, however, any of the really low profile helmets don't seem to have manual ventilation options. So, a trade off.

If there are no stores near you, I'd order one helmet from several manufacturers that you like, try them, and return the others. Do it all at the same time so you can compare directly. The fit from different companies can vary significantly.

Also checked out the RED Frends HIFI helmet. Had nice vents and features and cushy liner.

i have a bern i like it i'm a total noob and have wrecked so hard so many times and i wear it for bike riding and everything and else bern+1

Ordered a giro montane from Evo for $69... If that doesn't work, I'll try something else. I'll have to sell it locally if I don't like it because sending it back to the US will cost more than it's worth.

wouldn't it make more sense to just go to a local shop and get one. You can see what fits, no hassle of re-selling at a loss and trying this whole event over again to get another one that might not fit :dunno:

You would think, except my "local" is about a 2 hr round trip and $30 in gas to go look at the 1 or 2 brands he carries with no real stock. That, and the same helmet (if he carried Giro, which he doesn't) would cost me more like $160 than $60.

So, if you add in my time, gas and the price difference, it isn't worth it. The only thing I've bought local were my boots. He carries Burton and 32 and that's about it. He also had about 3 styles of each in very limited sizes.

Let me give you a little perspective, if you wanted to drive here from Vancouver, it would take ~17 hours. I live in a small isolated company town with about 7,500 people. The nearest town, where my "local" is has about 10,000 people. We have a small hill with a single old-school 2 seat chair lift and a t-bar.

I love it here, but there are definitely some disadvantages when it comes to acquiring gear. Our season doesn't start till mid December, so I have some time to look for a helmet. If this one doesn't work out, I'll sell it locally for what I paid.

But yeah, without the context it does seem a bit ridiculous. I'll give you that.

I don't know Canada's geography and now with more details this makes total sense.
Wish there was a simple fix for fitment but there just isn't.
Good luck for the search hope it doesn't take to much to get you a correct fitting helmet :thumbsup:

The Giro inform fit or whatever they call it seems to be the most "adjustable" fit on the market, so I'm hoping it will work out.

Check out the Giro Combyn. its $120, has no liner/vent adjustment, and has a crappy goggle clip, but since its a softshell it can apparently take dozens of hits without losing its potency

Yeah except I want the adjustment and I don't ride park so I don't plan on smacking my head repeatedly. Hopefully less than I did last year.
