How long does a helmet last (and still be considered safe), providing it takes no major impacts?

Does the structural integrity degrade over time? It seems like it would have to at some point.

Well, technically the uv rays will cause the plastic to degrade... But in the amount a helmet is exposed to it would take longer than you'd be able to use it.

I have not seen snowboarding helmets mention any specific numbers, but I know many motorcycle helmet manufacturers use something like 7 years since manufacturing / 5 years of wear as a general guideline for replacement, assuming no impact damage. The materials in both are quite similar, so 2 years seems quite short to require replacement, unless you're bored and want a new one ;).
