K2 Panoramic Split and K2 skins?

1687 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  walove
Just curious if anyone has any experience with any of the k2 splitboards and more specifically their proprietary z-clip skins? Last season I gave the G3 alpinist high traction skins a shot and was very disappointed. I'm not sure who K2 is using for their skins but I hope it's not G3.

TIA

Not sure who makes their skins, but I do like the Panoramic split. When I was looking to buy last year, I was pretty much looking at it and the Icelantic Gemini (essentially a Never Summer SL with an Icelantic top sheet - best of both worlds IMO). I really like the way the Panoramic incorporates hooks for the skins into the board. I've really heard nothing but good things about the board. Honestly, you'd probably get a better response on this one over at http://splitboard.com/talk/

I just bought the Panoramic and was curious myself.
Were the high tractions even out last year? I thought that was new to this season, but I also did not need new skins last year.

I honestly don't know who makes the K2 skins, but it is not G3. The plush is different. It is more akin to Ascension skins, but pretty sure it is not BD either. As far as performance goes, I don't know. They look well made enough that I suspect they are just fine. You might try pming KyleMiller. He's a K2 athlete and all he rides is the Panoramic for over the last year or so. Plenty of experience with their skins with that guy.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure if the G3 high traction skins were new to last year or not, but that's when I got them. The glue was very poor and they didn't seem to provide better grip, just less glide.

I'd really like it if BD were the company that makes them cause that's what I would go with otherwise since I can get a deal on them. However I feel like not using the k2 skins and just leaving those holes in the board is kinda stupid.
Seems like you pay a premium for using their proprietary z-clips. They're one of the most expensive splitboard skins out there.
They had the G3 splitboard skin and then the High Traction splitboard skin came out afterward. I am on the fence about them personally. Some people like them others don't. Usually it is the same complaints you referred to. Glue, traction. On the flip side the BD glue is just ridiculous. I've had to go to the doctor for minor surgery after separating skins with that glue...

That's how I feel about it as well.

Damn, that's pretty crazy. I've been using The G3 Love Glove so as not to really have to deal with the glue as much. They take a little longer when you're packing them up but definitely worth while in my eyes.
Well I am kidding about having to go to the doctor, but damn if they are not a pita.

That love glove thing is a great idea, for a fucking stuff sack.
Pretty sure the skins are made by pomoca, a euro brand. Skins are a love/hate thing, you will find mixed reviews for just about every brand. Type of snow changes grip and glide, temperature affects glue performance. If your skins are giving you issues try setting a mellower track. And tail clips are a must.
