Hey guys. I'm between 5'9''-5'10'' and 165lbs. Trying to decide between 2 boards.

Current board:

2012 Burton Clash - 158

This was my very first board, been riding it for about 4 seasons. I definitely want a shorter, higher performance board. This will likely be the only board in my quiver and I am hoping to log another 4+ seasons on it. 90% of my riding is all-mountain. I like to do backcountry and a lot of tree lined runs. I hit small jumps once in a while and ollie, but rarely ever do park riding. Board will most likely be used on 75% machine groomed snow and 25% powder.

Trying to decide between:

2015 Lib Tech Attack Banana - 156
Lib Tech Attack Banana EC2BTX Snowboard 2015 | evo outlet

or

2016 Lib Tech T Rice Pro C2 BTX - 155
Lib Tech T.Rice Pro C2BTX Snowboard 2016 | evo

I've heard great things about both, but which do you guys think is better for me. Other board suggestions also welcome.

Thank you!

T Rice Pro HP is a dream. I only got a chance to ride it once on machine groomed snow for just a handful of runs (long story). Turn initiation and responsiveness of the board was fantastic. The most noticeable difference was how light the board felt - it made me feel like I've been riding with a ball and chain my whole life.

I had it set up with Burton Custom bindings, but I have a pair of Union Force's coming in the mail. I have Whistler, BC booked for January 2016. I will have my complete setup by then and should easily get 3 days of riding in. I will try and post a more complete review then, but....so far so good!

Is the rocker noticeable (might be a silly question) How does it rip the grooms?

Last Sunday i demoed a bunch of all mountain boards. i ended up with the T. Rice Pro. i have been riding a GNU Carbon Credit for years. The T.Rice was very familiar to me, i assume because of the rocker. However, the T.Rice is overall a much more advanced board. it is responsive, has great edge hold, and a ton of pop. It's a super fun board.

Where do you normally ride?
Your sizing down may make sense for where you normally ride, but when you go to a full mtn with big vertical like Whistler..... you will miss a few cms.

Another option is to buy for your local mtn and rent something quality and more suited for Whistler. For example a bigger T Rice, so it wont feel like much of a departure.

I've only ridden a handful of boards, and of that handful 75% of my riding has been done on one board, but I can say that this camber blend is much more to my liking that any other board I've ridden. I also imagine that rocker, camber, hydbrid is a personal preference sort of thing as is almost everything when choosing your board.

The main things I've noticed with this board is the pop, responsiveness, and edge hold. I did not once feel like I was going to edge out when I was charging machine groomed snow. Also, this board is a champ when it comes to making hard stops, or carving at high speeds. My previous board was very bumpy when trying to hold an edge at high speeds, but the T Rice does so with ease - I'm attributing that to the edge hold/camber rocker blend, but I could be wrong.

In the past, my main mountain was Big Bear/Snow Summit, but recently I've been riding less frequently, but picking mountains outside of SoCal (Mammoth, Tahoe, Vail, etc).

I wrestled with size a lot before deciding on the 155. My main reason for getting a new board was because I wanted to size down (other board is a 158) and I felt like 157 wasn't drastic enough. I'm at 165lbs right now. I know that smaller boards may not do as well in fresh snow, but can you please elaborate on why 155 may be too small for Whistler?

Anyone else can chime in as well...would love to hear your thoughts

Its not too bad. The TRice is definitely stiffer and has a profile which will let you charge a bit better (actually a lot better than the Clash). But if you rode small mountains this size is fine (thats why i asked where you ride). If you find yourself in a bigger mtn, on bigger terrain and/or powder. The 157 or closer to the board you had would have been better.

But if you do only groomers or small mtns, i doesnt matter.

Edit: to give you an idea, Snow Summit has 1,200ft vertical. Whistler has 5,133 ft.

When you add to that more snowfall....... sizing down starts to make less sense. But you can go with whatever you want ;)

Funny you say that, I had actually ordered a Magtek One (last years model) and decided to cancel it last minute. I've heard great things about both boards and I know that the One has an incredible value. Just went for the Lib because I had the extra cash.

at your weight, a 155 cm for all mtn, does seem on the small side...but if you tried a 158 and didn't like it, you know what's best for you.

I'm 175 lbs and my smallest board is a 155 cm...it's my "noodle around on groomers/parks" board for when the glades aren't rideable. Even a 154 felt too small and squirrely for me.

I do agree that you might find yourself under-boarded with a 155 on a world-class mtn like Whistler (steep and deep)...unless you're just going to be sticking to groomers.

any reason why you want a Lib? I would say you should check out the magtek one which you can get at a great price. I was going to go with one until I got a custom on discount.

You guys are aware that these two boards are not the same camber profile, right?
They don't ride the same and are not simply interchangeable in that regard.

Sizing down really isnt bad imo. I am 6" 180-185 and I have always ridden 159-161. This year I picked up a Lib TRS 157 cuz I couldn't pass up the deal at local shop (got it for $120 - barely used demo board). I dont know if its the magnatraction or what, but I can honestly say I have never ripped harder on a board before, and the control I have on this deck is so much more precise than I have had before. Haven't had a real powder day yet, but I cant imagine its gonna make much of a diff from my 159 SnowTrooper, but we will have to wait and see. Also makes jumps and butters etc so much easier.

But a 155 for your size should be just fine imo.

Yup. The C2 BTX was what ultimately sold me on the T Rice. I just hope that I didn't size it down too small. Looks like I may have to shed some lbs :p

You'll be mostly fine. Worst case, rent a bigger board in case you get hit with big snow.

BUT if it is anything like its been the past few weeks... You're gonna need a bigger board. :D
